Responsibilities for Field Service Technician
The Field Service Technician is responsible for installation, troubleshooting, repair, and preventive maintenance of a wide variety of advanced manufacturing equipment, including:
- Laser cutting systems
- Laser welding systems
- Robotic welding systems
- Tube bending and forming systems
- Plate rolling bending equipment
- General metal fabrication equipment
Primary Duties Include:
- Installation & Setup – Oversee the installation, calibration, and startup of new and used manufacturing systems at customer sites and in-house.
- Customer Training & Instruction – Provide operational and maintenance training for customers to ensure proper and efficient use of their equipment.
- Conduct evaluation of customer needs - perform demonstrations on equipment in-house.
- Troubleshooting & Repair – Diagnose and repair mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical systems within industrial automation equipment.
- Field Modifications & Upgrades – Implement hardware and software modifications, including robotic welding programming, laser alignment, and automation tuning.
- Electrical & Controls Support – Install, troubleshoot, and replace PLC components, robotic controllers, electrical wiring, sensors, and I/O modules.
- Technical Collaboration – Work closely with Lead Service Engineers in America, Europe, and Asia to resolve complex issues efficiently.
- Customer Relationship Management – Build strong relationships with customers by delivering excellent service, offering process improvement recommendations, and ensuring their production goals are met.
- Documentation & Reporting – Provide detailed service reports on each service call, including recommended follow-ups, parts orders, and efficiency improvements.
Requirements
- Minimum 3 years of experience in industrial equipment service or related technical field. High school diploma or GED equivalent (Technical degree preferred).
- Strong background in robotic welding, laser systems, and automated manufacturing equipment.
- Proficiency in mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic troubleshooting.
- Knowledge of CNC, PLC programming and robotic control systems is a plus.
- Ability to work independently while receiving remote technical support.
- Must be 21 with a valid driver’s license and passport (within 2-3 months of hire) – company reimbursed.
- Ability to travel throughout the Midwest Region with additional opportunity to travel for training to suppliers across North America, Asia, Europe, Canada, and Mexico.
- Ability to lift up to 60 lbs., stand for long periods, and work extended hours when required.
- Ability to drive up to 10 hours per day and work up to 12-hour shifts when necessary.
