Join Our Team as an Instructor at Garden Home Recreation Center!

Tualatin Hills Park & Recreation District (THPRD) is seeking enthusiastic individuals to join our team as instructors in art, sports, Taekwondo, Dance, and youth cooking. If you are excited about recreation and ready to share your expertise with the community, we would love to hear from you!

Our instructors engage with a diverse community, offering classes for all ages—from preschoolers to seniors. Classes are conducted both indoors and outdoors, and we are dedicated to creating a welcoming and safe environment for all participants.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, organize, and instruct recreational programs, or classes based on your expertise.
  • Create a positive and inclusive learning environment for participants of all ages and skill levels.
  • Develop and implement engaging curriculum and activities to meet program goals.
  • Ensure the safety and well-being of participants during classes or programs.
  • Provide guidance, feedback, and support to participants to enhance their learning experience.

The Tualatin Hills Garden Home Recreation Center is seeking instructors for the following:

  • Dance
  • Basketball
  • Pre-gymnastics/Tumbling
  • Preschool Level Sports Introduction
  • Soccer
  • Volleyball
  • Art

Qualifications

  • Relevant experience and expertise in the subject matter you wish to instruct.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to adapt teaching methods to meet the needs of diverse participants.
  • Passion for creating a positive and enjoyable learning experience.

Schedule

  • Part-time with flexible hours based on program needs.
  • Staff are typically scheduled between 2 to 29 hours per week, from 7:30 AM to 9:00 PM throughout the week, with opportunities to work on Saturdays and Sundays.
  • Part-time employees have variable schedules and may work less than 1,560 hours per year.

Positions

  • Instructor I: No teaching experience required, must love working with people of all ages and abilities; able to work inside and outside; and be at least 16 years of age.
  • Instructor II: Must have at least 1 year of experience in leading and instructing general classes and be at least 16 years of age.
  • Instructor III: Must have over 1 year of experience and specialized training in the assigned program area; and be 18 years of age. Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record may be required for some positions.
  • Instructor IV: Experience: Over two (2) years of experience in the specialty area AND Education/Training: Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade plus additional specialized training equivalent to four years of college.

Classification Status

THPRD is hiring for multiple roles with hours varying based on program needs.

  • Part-Time Variable (PT): Employees generally work fewer than 20 hours per week and no more than 1,560 hours annually.
  • Seasonal: Work up to 40 hours per week for a maximum of six consecutive months.
  • Part-Time Benefits Eligible (PTB): Work an average of 20 to 29 hours per week year-round and qualify for enrollment in a benefits package.

Leave

  • Paid Time Off - Paid leave type for part-time variable and part-time benefits (PTB) eligible employees. Paid Time Off (PTO), will accrue at a rate of one (1) hour earned for every 30 hours worked. This is in addition to Sick leave and may be scheduled by employees for any reason! (available to PT and PTB only)
  • The ability to earn and utilize up to forty (40) hours of paid sick leave per year
  • Family Medical Leave eligibility for qualified family and medical related reasons
  • Paid compassionate leave is available to all part-time employees to grieve the loss of an immediate family member, to make arrangements (if necessary), and to attend memorial services. Employees are eligible for paid compassionate leave for up to the hours scheduled in their average work week.
