Job Title: Security Guard – Racing Hours
Department: Security
Reports To: Lieutenant on duty
Under CBA: United Food & Commercial Workers Union – Local 27
SUMMARY
Perform tasks per post orders and as assigned to ensure the safety and security of patrons, employees, horses, and the facility
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Maintains internal security regulations by observing the area, investigating any incidents, and documenting incidents to supervisors through proper reporting practices
- Provides timely and appropriate responses in case of an emergency
- Enforces all applicable regulations, laws, internal policies/procedures, and internal control protocols, along with maintaining a safe environment for both patrons and employees
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
This job has no supervisory responsibilities.
QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one (1) to three (3) months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, incident reports, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization. Ability to write incident reports and maintain required logs.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out all instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables of which may occur in intense emergency situations. Ability to remain calm when dealing with a variety of out of control acute situations.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Must obtain a Maryland Racing Commission License.

The work environment is characteristic of a thoroughbred horse racing track. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to outside weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
This position is unionized and requires work during non-typical hours, including holidays, weekends and evening/night shifts as business dictates. The hours of work vary but is usually not more than an eight hour day.
The Front-Side Security has two shifts. The day shift which begins a half hour before the admissions gate opens (time depends of time of the year) and the evening shift begins at 6:00 p.m. and ends at the end of simulcasting.
10:30am-5:30pm or 5pm-11:30pm/12am
