Café Counter Person (CCP) - Open City at The National Cathedral (OCNC)

The Tryst Trading Company food group seeks a personable, well-organized, and communicative Café Counter Person (CCP) to join our team at Open City at The National Cathedral (OCNC). We are looking for individuals who are genuinely passionate about great food and drinks, and who thrive in a culture focused on building meaningful connections with guests and staff.

OCNC is a bustling coffeehouse/café offering a variety of food items, specialty coffee, and non-alcoholic beverages. CCPs are cross-trained to perform all café functions and must share our Core Values (listed in the qualifications section).

Key Responsibilities Include, but are not limited to:

• Guest Service & Order Management:
  • Greet, assist, and anticipate the needs of all guests quickly and courteously.
  • Accurately take food and beverage orders and process payments.
  • Ensure guests have an enjoyable experience from arrival to departure.
• Product Knowledge & Preparation:
  • Maintain detailed knowledge of all menu items, including key ingredients, common allergens, and pairing suggestions.
  • Assist with the preparation of both beverages and food items.
• Operations & Cleanliness:
  • Run orders out to guest tables.
  • Pre-bus and bus all tables.
  • Constantly maintain a clean, safe work environment and follow all good food safety practices.
  • Assist with dishwashing and trash removal.
  • Perform assigned Running Sidework and Closing Sidework duties.
• Teamwork & Culture:
  • Work well with others and promote an environment where meaningful connections can be built.
  • Perform additional tasks or duties as directed by the Manager on Duty.

The Growth Path for a successful CCP is to Cafe Barista > Cafe Lead > Assistant Cafe Manager > Cafe Manager > AGM > GM > Central Management Positions.

Required Skills & Attributes:

• Excellent oral communication skills in English are mandatory.
• Must be organized and proficient at multitasking.

Preferred Experience & Education:

• Previous experience in the Hospitality or Restaurant industry is highly advantageous.
• Specific Barista experience is a significant asset.
• A High School degree is preferred.

• Strong ability to learn and memorize is necessary, particularly regarding menu knowledge.
• Must thrive and work effectively under pressure.
• Must be able to stand for extended periods.
• Ability to lift up to 30 lbs. is required.
