Trustpoint is excited to partner with a boutique estates and trusts practice in their search for an experienced Probate and Estate Paralegal for a contract-to-hire opportunity in Fairfax, VA. The ideal candidate will have substantial experience with estate administration and probate matters in Virginia, Maryland, and/or the District of Columbia, along with hands-on experience preparing estate administration accountings. This is a hands-on role for a highly organized professional who takes pride in accuracy, client service, and keeping estate matters on track from opening through final distribution.
Responsibilities:
- Assist with all aspects of estate administration and probate matters in Virginia, Maryland, and/or the District of Columbia
- Prepare and assist with probate filings, inventories, accountings, creditor matters, beneficiary communications, and closing documents
- Prepare estate administration accountings, including gathering, organizing, reconciling, and documenting estate assets, income, expenses, and distributions
- Track estate assets and transactions and maintain accurate estate records
- Communicate professionally with clients, beneficiaries, financial institutions, attorneys, courts, and other professionals
- Assist with obtaining date-of-death values, collecting assets, paying expenses and debts, and coordinating distributions
- Monitor deadlines and court requirements to keep matters on schedule
- Maintain organized electronic and paper files and ensure documentation is complete and accurate
- Draft correspondence, pleadings, probate forms, and other estate administration documents
- Enter and maintain matter information, deadlines, time entries, and documents in Clio and GEMS
- Provide administrative and substantive support to the attorney throughout the estate administration process
- Handle confidential client and estate information with discretion and professionalism
Qualifications:
- Prior experience as a probate or estate administration paralegal is required
- Experience handling probate and estate administration matters in Virginia, Maryland, and/or the District of Columbia is required
- Demonstrated experience preparing estate administration accountings is required
- Proficiency with Clio and GEMS is required
- Strong understanding of probate and estate administration procedures
- Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy
- Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple matters and competing deadlines
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong analytical, mathematical, and problem-solving abilities
- Ability to work independently while collaborating closely with attorneys and the broader team
- Professional, dependable, discreet, and client-service oriented
- Bachelor’s degree preferred
- All candidates must be able to work at a computer screen for a sustained amount of time
