About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Trust Accounting Specialist to join our team in Philadelphia, PA. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in legal accounting and trust account management within a law firm environment. This role is responsible for the end-to-end accounting and administration of settlement funds, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and timely distribution.
Law firm experience is required and candidates without law firm experience will not be considered.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 5 years of trust accounting or legal accounting experience
- Law firm experience is required
- Strong understanding of trust accounting rules and settlement fund management
- Experience handling complex attorney-client settlement distributions
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills
- Proficiency with accounting software and Microsoft Excel
- Ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining a high level of accuracy
Primary Responsibilities
- Manage the trust accounting process from receipt through final disbursement of settlement funds
- Track and reconcile settlement funds to ensure accuracy and compliance
- Coordinate with attorneys to facilitate timely distributions
- Analyze court orders, recapitulations, and contingent fee agreements
- Prepare detailed distribution summaries and submit them to attorneys for approval
- Perform end-to-end accounting of settlement funds, including:
- Recording receipts
- Booking attorney fees
- Billing and recording costs
- Disbursing funds to the firm, clients, referral attorneys, and lienholders
- Transfer settlement funds to interest-bearing accounts when appropriate
- Maintain accurate financial records and supporting documentation
Additional Responsibilities
- Perform bank reconciliations
- Provide cost details and supporting financial information to attorneys and paralegals as requested
- Review draft court orders and recapitulations for accuracy
- Complete bi-monthly Concur uploads
- Complete monthly Papercut (soft cost) uploads
- Process monthly cost write-offs for closed cases

- Knowledge of legal settlement accounting and trust compliance requirements
- Ability to work collaboratively with attorneys, paralegals, and finance professionals
- High degree of professionalism and confidentiality
