About the Credit Analyst Role

Are you a numbers person who loves to see the "big picture" behind a balance sheet? Trustco Bank is searching for a Credit Analyst to join our elite Credit Administration team. In this role, you aren’t just looking at data; you are a financial detective, uncovering the stories told by tax returns, industrial benchmarks, and credit reports to protect the bank's assets and empower our clients.

As a Credit Analyst, you serve as the primary architect of our credit approval packages. You will deep-dive into complex corporate and personal financial data to determine the heartbeat of a loan's risk level. Your insights and narratives will directly influence our lending decisions, ensuring that every dollar we lend is backed by sound logic and meticulous research.

Key Responsibilities

  • The Financial Deep-Dive: Analyze and interpret a vast array of data—from corporate tax returns and AR aging to appraisals and collateral evaluations—to establish creditworthiness.
  • Industrial Benchmarking: Conduct high-level research on industry trends to identify external risks that could impact a borrower’s ability to thrive and repay.
  • Narrative Excellence: Write the "story" of the credit. You will prepare detailed written narratives that outline performance trends, identify strengths and weaknesses, and make formal recommendations for risk ratings.
  • Portfolio Health: Perform internal loan reviews on existing credits, "stress testing" current files to ensure our borrowers maintain the capacity to succeed in today’s evolving economy.
  • Fiduciary Stewardship: Handle highly sensitive operational and financial information with the ultimate level of discretion and ethical integrity.
  • Strategic Collaboration: Work alongside the Quality Assurance team to ensure all credit packages are airtight and compliant with 2025 consumer compliance laws.

This job description is not exhaustive; duties and responsibilities may change at any time with or without notice.

Required

  • Analytical Powerhouse: You have a "detective" mindset and a passion for financial spreading and underwriting.
  • Knowledge & Expertise: You possess a broad-based understanding of credit administration and the lending lifecycle.
  • Elite Communication: You can take complex financial data and turn it into a clear, persuasive, and professional written narrative.
  • Tech Mastery: You are a power user of Microsoft Excel and specialized banking software, using them to create sophisticated financial portfolios.
  • A Bachelor’s degree in a business-related field.
  • At least three (3) years of dedicated credit analysis and underwriting experience.
