Interim Staff Accountant
Duration: 12–18 months
Start Date: Mid to end of April
Location: Chicago, IL
Work Setting: Hybrid (3 days onsite, 2 days remote)
Schedule: 37.5 hours/week
Overview:
This role will support core accounting operations and financial reporting. This individual will play a key role in maintaining accurate financial data, supporting audit and grant-related activities, and helping improve processes
Overview of Role Duties:
- Provide day-to-day accounting support across multiple departments and leadership teams
- Prepare and review financial statements and related reporting
- Assist with complex accounting activities, including grant-related work
- Perform and oversee - Account reconciliations (bank & balance sheet), Revenue recognition, Month-end and year-end close, Journal entries and general ledger activity
- Support audit preparation and respond to auditor requests
- Compile, analyze, and reconcile financial data to ensure accuracy and consistency
- Contribute to process improvements and policy development, particularly in preparation for ERP implementation
- Partner cross-functionally to address ad hoc financial requests and reporting needs
Skillset:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
- 5 years of accounting experience
- Higher education or nonprofit experience required
- Advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, lookups, data analysis)
- Prior EPR implementation experience is a plus
- Must have a collaborative mindset and proactive approach to problem-solving
Compensation: $35 - $40/Hr. (based on experience)
