Bankruptcy Associate
Location: New Jersey (Hybrid)
Compensation: $220,000 – $370,000 Base Salary, plus Performance-Based Bonus
An AmLaw 200 firm is seeking a Bankruptcy Associate to join its established Restructuring and Insolvency practice. This position offers the opportunity to represent debtors, creditors, and other stakeholders in complex Chapter 11 proceedings and related restructuring matters, with meaningful responsibility and direct interaction with partners and clients.
Position Overview
The successful candidate will be expected to assume an active role in managing bankruptcy and restructuring matters through all phases of representation, including case strategy, motion practice, and court proceedings.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Represent clients in Chapter 11 proceedings, out-of-court restructurings, and insolvency-related matters
- Prepare and draft pleadings, motions, memoranda, and other court filings
- Conduct legal research and analysis on complex bankruptcy and restructuring issues
- Appear in court proceedings, including hearings and status conferences, as appropriate
- Assist in the development and execution of case strategy in coordination with partners
- Engage with clients, financial advisors, and other stakeholders throughout the lifecycle of a matter
- Support negotiations involving creditors, lenders, and other interested parties
Qualifications
- Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school
- Admission to the bar and in good standing in the relevant jurisdiction
- 3–7 years of experience in bankruptcy and restructuring matters
- Demonstrated experience with Chapter 11 proceedings, including creditor and/or debtor-side representations
- Strong legal writing, analytical, and advocacy skills
- Ability to manage multiple matters and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
