Trueline’s client, a respected AmLaw-level firm, is seeking a Legal Assistant to join their litigation team in San Diego, CA. In this role, you’ll provide high-level legal and administrative support to attorneys and paralegals handling complex commercial, civil, and defense litigation matters.
What You’ll Do as the Legal Assistant
Support attorneys’ caseloads by maintaining calendars, coordinating travel, and processing monthly expense reports
Prepare, revise, proof, and finalize correspondence, pleadings, and other legal filings
Perform electronic filing (e-filing) in state and federal courts as needed
Schedule depositions, mediations, hearings, client meetings, and coordinate logistics
Communicate with clients, vendors, courts, and internal stakeholders when necessary
Assist with conflict checks, new matter set-up, opening client engagements, and billing setup
Maintain electronic matter files, update contacts, assist with billing and client invoices, and handle other administrative tasks as delegated
Support trial preparation and may attend trial or hearings (as needed)
Must-Haves as the Legal Assistant
Minimum of 5 years’ recent litigation experience in a law firm environment (state and federal preferred)
Strong writing, grammar, and communication skills (internal and external)
Highly organized, detail-oriented, able to juggle competing deadlines and shifting priorities
Proactive, self-starting, takes ownership of deliverables
Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
Experience with document management systems, docketing systems (e.g. iManage, Aderant, Elite)
Familiarity with billing / time entry software
Nice-to-Haves as the Legal Assistant
Experience in a large or mid-sized firm handling commercial or defense litigation
Knowledge of electronic discovery tools, trial presentation software, or case management systems
Exposure to client billing practices and budget tracking
Prior exposure to working with cross-office or multi-jurisdictional matters
