Job Summary

The Registered Pharmacy Technician functions under the direct supervision of the Pharmacist/Pharmacy Manager and is responsible for the accurate preparation of prescriptions for verification by the Pharmacist on duty and maintaining the workflow of the pharmacy including cashiering and the accurate release of prescriptions at will call. They must also perform all other activities as allowed and regulated by the Florida Board of Pharmacy. This is NOT a remote position.

  • Maintains a transparent, effective relationship with the Pharmacy Manager and supports the organization’s activities

  • Assist the Pharmacist in maintaining all operations of the pharmacy department
  • Perform accurate and efficient data entry functions, to include billing, product dispensing, labeling, and release to patient 
  • Collect the correct monies when releasing prescriptions at will call as well as provide accurate change to patients
  • Submit accurate and necessary supply and medication orders under the direction of the Pharmacist
  • Follow all medication guidelines as well as policies and procedures for receiving, filling, dispensing, logging, maintaining loss prevention procedures, and avoiding diversion for all inventory including controlled medications
  • Ensure that pharmacy policies as well as federal and state laws and regulations in all prescription related issues, including HIPAA, 340b, SOP, QA, and CQI, are followed
  • Understand and maintain compliance with the 340b drug program
  • Verify that presented prescriptions are current and valid for dispensing 
  • Complete a 340b eligibility check for every prescription fill to determine if the prescription meets eligibility criteria
  • Demonstrate the ability to navigate the electronic health record (EHR) of patients to find relevant information necessary for prescription processing
  • Review prescriptions issued by physicians or other authorized prescribers to assure accuracy, appropriateness, and determine formulas and ingredients needed
  • Compounds medications, using standard formulas and processes such as weighing, measuring, and mixing ingredients under the supervision of the pharmacist
  • Ensure that all control drug policies and procedures as required by state, federal, and organizational guidelines are followed
  • Performs troubleshooting functions for third-party discrepancies and other prescription filling issues
  • Answer the telephone and assist patients at the front counter as well as through curbside pickup (when applicable) to maintain the workflow of the pharmacy
  • Utilize the phone language translation service to communicate with patients that speak another language  
  • Responsible for maintaining a current and valid license as required by state, federal, and pharmacy guidelines
  • Maintain contact with providers, clinical support staff, and administrative staff to determine needs, resolve problems, improve processes, and promote effective drug therapy
  • Stay current with new and changing drug therapies and uses
  • Responsible for the proper maintenance of pharmacy drug inventories including accurate counts and clean shelving
  • Responsible for the proper storage of all pharmacy inventory
  • Maintains a clean, neat, and orderly pharmacy department at all times
  • Actively engage patients and provide exemplary customer service as well as provide education about pharmacy services and programs offered in an effort to grow the pharmacy business and volume of prescriptions dispensed 
  • Maintains established procedures concerning quality assurance, security of controlled substances, and disposal of hazardous waste drugs
  • Efficiently enters accurate data such as, but not limited to, patient demographics, prescription information, drug cost, prescription pricing, insurance information, and inventory
  • Maintains awareness of third-party Rx billing systems and resolves third-party rejection problems promptly, and resubmits rejected claims for payment on a timely basis
  • Resolves and reports prescription issues and errors to the pharmacist on duty immediately and adheres to regulations and company policy regarding continuous quality improvement
  • Develop and maintain a good working relationship with physicians and other health care professionals in order to better assist patients 
  • Delivers accurate reports and assignments on time
  • Completes all assigned projects and tasks accurately and on time 
  • Must have reliable daily transportation and be able to travel to and staff the pharmacy at other health center locations when necessary as instructed
  • Participate in events outside of normal course of business as assigned 
  • Ability to work any work schedule as assigned by the organization which may include evening and/or weekend hours
  • Must be able to provide support outside of regular business hours as required, including the ability to be on call as needed
  • Ability to work under pressure and at a fast pace
  • Travel as necessary using personal vehicle (must maintain current auto insurance at own expense)

Minimum Qualifications

  • Education: 
  • High School diploma or equivalent Required
    • Pharmacy Technician Training Program Certificate of Completion (must be provided to the organization prior to start date)

 

  • Experience: 
  • Minimum of two (2) years’ of experience in a retail community pharmacy setting
  • Pharmacy prescription processing software experience preferred 
  • Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) experience preferred
  • 340B experience preferred
  • Bilingual a plus

 

  • Licenses or Certifications: 
    • Current Florida Pharmacy Technician license, active and in good standing, with no restrictions
  1. Current basic life support (BLS)/cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) certification

 

  • Criminal Background Clearance:
  • True Health is a Health Center Program grantee under 42 U.S.C. 254b, a deemed Public Health Service employee under 42 U.S.C. 233(g)-(n), and partners with agencies that require criminal background checks. True Health has established policies and procedures that may influence the overall employment process, hiring, and “just cause” for the termination of employees. An employee’s career could be shortened if there is a violation of any policies and procedures.

 

Prohibited criminal behavior is defined in Florida Statute (F.S.) 408.809. Any employee arrested for any offense outlined in the F.S.408.809 will be immediately suspended and remain suspended until the charges are disposed of in court. The employee will be terminated for an arrest or conviction of any violation listed above.

 

DRUG/ALCOHOL SCREENINGS

A post-offer drug and alcohol screen is a requirement for employment. Failure to successfully pass the drug/alcohol screen will be cause for the offer to be rescinded. Employees are subject to random drug/alcohol screenings throughout the duration of their employment with True Health. If an employee fails to pass the drug/alcohol screening, then this shall become grounds for discipline up to and including immediate termination.

WORKING CONDITIONS

The employee will work as the needs of the operation require. Normal work days and hours are Monday through Thursday, 8am - 6pm and Fridays, 8am - 12pm; however, there will be times when the employee will need to come in or work on “off hours” or “off days” to meet the needs of the position.
