Location: Highland, IL

Pay: $131,000 – $150,500 per year

Job Type: Full-Time

Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM

Work Arrangement: Onsite initially, with opportunity for a hybrid schedule (2 days remote)

About the Role

We are seeking a highly experienced Principal Research & Development Engineer to lead advanced engineering projects focused on electrical power systems, protection, and control design. This role is ideal for a technical leader who thrives on innovation, problem-solving, and developing cutting-edge solutions within the power systems industry.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the planning, development, and execution of complex R&D projects related to electrical power systems
• Design and develop protection and control systems, including embedded applications and algorithms
• Create engineering specifications, system models, and proposals for new and existing products
• Perform simulations and power system studies to support design and customer needs
• Troubleshoot and resolve complex technical challenges using innovative approaches
• Direct design validation through simulations and prototype testing
• Document design processes, including theory of operation and test data
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams and provide technical guidance to engineers and technicians
• Interface directly with customers and represent engineering efforts in meetings, presentations, and industry events
• Support product development, business opportunities, and application engineering efforts as needed
• Travel occasionally to support projects and customer engagements

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) or equivalent required
• Minimum of 10 years of experience in electrical power systems, protection, and control design or analysis
• Strong knowledge of power systems modeling, simulation tools, and control systems
• Experience developing protection and control algorithms and embedded system applications
• Proven ability to lead projects and supervise engineering teams
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present technical information clearly
• Proficiency with standard computer and engineering software tools
