Position Summary

Essential Duties And Responsibilities
- Picks up and delivers laboratory specimens, medical supplies, reports, and related materials according to established schedules and procedures
- Ensures proper handling, labeling, transport, and storage conditions of laboratory specimens during transport
- Maintains specimen integrity and follows all laboratory safety, infection control, and chain-of-custody procedures
- Communicate professionally and effectively with laboratory staff, physician offices, clinic personnel, and hospital departments
- Operates vehicle safely and in compliance with all traffic laws and organizational policies
- Assists with laboratory and medical supplies as assigned
- Adheres to HIPAA confidentiality requirements and always protects patient information
- Follows OSHA safety standards, bloodborne pathogen guidelines, and infection prevention protocols
Education
- High school diploma or GED required
- Prior courier, delivery, healthcare, or laboratory experience preferred but not required
- Valid Alabama driver’s license required
- Acceptable driving record required in accordance with hospital insurance guidelines
- Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Ability to work independently and manage time effectively
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
- Basic understanding of specimen handling and infection control principles preferred
- Ability to communicate professionally with staff, providers, and patients
- Knowledge of local roads and surrounding service areas preferred
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism in all interactions
- Physical Requirements
- Ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, and lift throughout the workday
- Ability to frequently enter and exit vehicles during deliveries
- Ability to lift and transport up to 30 pounds
- Ability to work in varied weather and driving conditions
- Work is performed both inside healthcare facilities and outdoors while operating a vehicle in varying weather and traffic conditions. Exposure to biological specimens and healthcare environments may occur.
