Position Summary
The Transportation Support Specialist is responsible for providing safe, reliable, and compassionate transportation to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD). This role ensures passengers arrive to day programs, medical appointments, employment sites, and community activities in a manner that supports dignity, independence, and person-centered care.
Key Responsibilities
Transportation & Safety
- Safely operate agency vehicles in accordance with all traffic laws and organizational policies.
- Transport individuals with IDD to and from designated locations on a set schedule.
- Assist passengers during boarding and exiting vehicles, including wheelchair securement and use of adaptive equipment.
- Conduct daily vehicle inspections and report maintenance needs promptly.
- Maintain clean, organized, and hazard-free vehicles.
- Follow emergency procedures and respond appropriately to behavioral or medical incidents.
Support & Care
- Provide respectful, trauma-informed support to individuals during transport.
- Monitor individuals for signs of distress, discomfort, or unsafe behavior.
- Use approved techniques for supporting individuals with challenging behaviors.
- Communicate effectively with caregivers, staff, and program personnel regarding passenger needs.
Documentation & Compliance
- Complete trip logs, mileage records, and incident reports accurately and on time.
- Maintain confidentiality and comply with HIPAA, organizational, and state regulatory standards.
- Participate in required training such as CPR/First Aid, Medication Awareness (if applicable), and defensive driving.
Qualifications
Required
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Valid driver’s license with clean driving record.
- Ability to pass background checks, drug screens, and DMV checks.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and assist individuals with mobility needs.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills; patience and compassion.
Preferred
- Experience working with individuals with intellectual or developmental disabilities.
- Previous experience in transportation, caregiving, or human services.
- Knowledge of wheelchair lifts, tie-downs, and adaptive transportation equipment.

Pay: $18.00 - $22.00 per hour
