Job Summary:
This position is a non-benefited per diem role, eligible for per diem differential. Must be available to work some weekends and evenings as needed.
We are looking for a Health Unit Coordinator ( HUC) to work in our Medical-Surgical department. The Health Unit Coordinator collaborates with the clinical team to coordinate all aspects of patient care and transition out of the hospital setting. The right candidate should embody excellent customer service skills with a patient-centered focus. Responsibilities include, but not limited to admission, transfer and discharge of patient accounts as well as coordinating activities with the patient care team. This position requires effective communication skills an ability to multitask during periods of high unit activity, while maintaining attention to detail. Additional responsibilities include but are not limited to; ordering supplies, answering the telephone, using Microsoft Office, managing the nurse call system and phones.
This is a per-diem position with a varied schedule, to include day shift on Saturdays and occasional vacation relief.

Job Functions
- Coordinate and prioritize tasks, maintaining daily flow of the unit in a high-paced environment
- Communicate with staff, families, and other departments utilizing effective communication skills
- Effectively coordinates communications involving incoming calls, pages, and nurse call light system
- Coordinate admissions, discharges and transfers of patients and maintains medical records and release of information for continuation of care
- Effectively manage various administrative tasks such as entering patient charges, ordering supplies, and other duties as assigned
- Demonstrate a high level of attention to detail which is critical when dealing with patient care
- Recognized possible issues and acts proactively to avoid a negative impact
- Able to appropriately process the flow and events occurring within the unit
- Demonstrates effective and respectful communication with patients, families and the healthcare team, using excellent interpersonal skills
- Ability to adapt to a rapidly changing environment
- Ability to quickly and appropriately prioritize tasks and manage interruptions
- Ability to multi-task with multiple request being asked at once
- Complete work timely and accurately
- Work effectively and collaboratively within a team environment
- Demonstrates exemplary telephone etiquette
- Possess accurate keyboarding skills
- High School Diploma or GED required
- Previous health care experience and clerical experience preferred
