Position Purpose
Under the general supervision of the Manager, Facilities, leads, schedules, coordinates and expedites all work pertaining to the mechanical department according to established hospital priorities and applicable codes. Completes work with a limited degree of management oversight. Acts as an informal resource for colleagues with less experience. Identifies key issues and patterns from partial/conflicting data. Takes a broad perspective to problems and spots new, less obvious solutions. Position may require working and leading a team at either campus or alternative sites. Work schedule may include day, evening, night, weekends or overtime hours.

What You Will Do
- Coordinates the work of assigned personnel engaged in various engineering tasks associated with maintenance of mechanical systems and equipment throughout the Hospital including mechanical rooms, office spaces, patient areas, operating rooms, etc.
- Schedules staff according to departmental workload to ensure 100% coverage of the work areas, boiler room and hospital coverage 24 / 7.
- Monitors daily job performance of employees according to departmental guidelines.
- Assesses the number and level of personnel needed to provide quality service and adjusts staffing and assignments as needed.
- Assists department manager in determining staff needs, work methods, and performance standards.
- Complies with department policies in authorizing change in assigned employee work schedules.
- Ensures compliance with hospital and departmental safety policies and procedures
- . Evaluates the quality of service through reports, observations, and patient surveys.
- Ensures staff supports and adheres to the philosophy and standards of the Hospital.
- Work requires knowledge normally acquired through completion of a high school diploma or equivalent. Associates degree is preferred.
- Requires a minimum of seven (7) years of HVAC experience. Lead or supervisory experience in an institutional healthcare or equivalent environment is preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively plan, organize and lead a large group of employees and maintain discipline and morale.
- Proficient in computer software, Excel, Word, etc.
- Ability to read, write, and speak English and to understand written and oral instructions is required.
- Work requires the analytical ability necessary to resolve the day‑to‑day problems related to leading the work of others. Work requires the ability to assign, distribute and follow up on the work of other employees within the unit; provide input into the performance appraisals of assigned employees; and enforce unit work rules and policies.
- Knowledge of local, state, and federal regulations associated with Engineering Services.
- Some minor physical inconvenience or discomfort present in the workplace (i.e., All areas of hospital where mechanical equipment is present, including mechanical rooms, office spaces, patient areas, operating rooms, etc.) Moderate noise, disagreeable odors, exposure to hazardous waste materials, etc. or occasional exposure to minor injury or other occupational hazard requiring precautions.
- Requires light physical effort on a regular basis as in frequent standing, walking, bending stooping, etc. or occasional lifting of items weighing up to 50 pounds. Periodic eye or ear strain included in this level less than 50% of the time.
- May be required to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) at times such as masks, eye protection, ear protection, gloves and gowns.
