Position Purpose
This position assists the department in the clerical aspects of preparation for patient meal service through accurate menu processing and assisting patients with menu selection.
What You Will Do
- Solves customer problems, treats customer with dignity and respect.
- Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to identify and process correct diets and portions for all age groups from pediatrics through elderly adults.
- Process Room Service customer orders, including patient/family initiated orders and those patients needing assistance.
- Assist patients with telephone call backs or personal visitation as needed while ensuring adherence to all diet orders.
- Provides assistance with tray assembly as needed.
- Perform all work in a safe and sanitary manner. Maintain all workstations in a neat and organized manner.
- Follow safety policies and procedures included but not limited to: using two patient identifiers, washing or sanitizing before and after going into patient rooms, delivering to isolation patients following proper signage and directions for the isolation precautions, and following diet orders set in place by doctors.
- Candidate must be able to accurately enter meal orders into computer software, must be able to focus in a busy and fast-paced environment. Must also be flexible in order to cooperate and appropriately respond to changes in workload.
- This position will be working in the diet office the majority of their shift with periods of time in the kitchen on the patient tray line. Position may also be required to visit patient rooms as necessary to take patient’s meal orders. Uses a computer, tablet, phone, and copier.
- High School Diploma or Equivalent
- Related experience or education demonstrating knowledge of normal and modified diets and the Carbohydrate Counting and Protein Exchange Systems preferred.
- Job Skills:
- Previous networked computer experience preferred.
- Basic typing skills
- Good verbal communication skills
- Ability to work independently and complete assignments in a timely manner.
- Must be able to stand for long periods of time (up to 2 hours).
- Must be able to sit for long periods of time (up to 6 hours)
