Lab Assistant-Tulsa, OK
$16-$22/hour based on experience
Temp to Perm-Full Time-Monday through Thursday full day and Friday half day
Position Summary
A busy medical clinic is seeking a dependable and detail-oriented Laboratory Assistant / Medical Lab Assistant to support daily laboratory operations. This role is primarily focused on pre-analytical laboratory functions including specimen collection, processing, labeling, data entry, quality control, and maintaining specimen integrity throughout the laboratory workflow.
The ideal candidate will have prior laboratory experience, strong phlebotomy skills, and the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced clinical environment while maintaining accuracy and professionalism.
This position works under the supervision of the Laboratory Lead and Lab Manager.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Assist with receiving, logging, collecting, and preparing specimens for testing
- Perform specimen identification, labeling, storage, and distribution
- Perform phlebotomy, including STAT laboratory draws
- Conduct laboratory and proficiency testing as directed
- Maintain daily quality control (QC) procedures
- Enter and verify laboratory data within LIS, EHR, and other software systems
- Operate, clean, sterilize, and maintain laboratory equipment and instruments
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of laboratory work areas
- Gather laboratory-related items from clinical areas for processing, storage, or transfer
- Answer phones, take messages, and provide routine laboratory information
- Monitor inventory levels and assist with supply ordering
- Perform miscellaneous duties as assigned to support laboratory operations
Qualifications
Education
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Some college coursework in science-related fields preferred
- Certificate, diploma, or relevant on-the-job laboratory training preferred
Experience
- Minimum of 9–12 months of laboratory experience required
- Previous experience in a medical practice or clinical laboratory preferred
- Clinical laboratory experience preferred
License/Certification
- Medical Laboratory Technologist License preferred

Knowledge
- Understanding of routine laboratory techniques and procedures
- Knowledge of laboratory equipment operation and maintenance
- Familiarity with medical terminology and laboratory workflows

Work Environment
This position works in a laboratory setting with potential exposure to communicable diseases, toxic substances, ionizing radiation, medicinal preparations, and other conditions common to a laboratory environment.
Physical Requirements
- Frequent standing and walking for extended periods
- Full range of body motion including manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination
- Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds
