Position Summary
We are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Senior Tax Accountant to join our growing accounting team. Reporting to the Accounting Manager, this role will be responsible for supporting the Company's federal, state, local, and international tax compliance efforts. The Senior Tax Accountant will play a key role in managing state and local tax obligations, maintaining sales and use tax compliance, coordinating with third-party tax service providers, supporting acquisition integration activities, and assisting with various tax-related projects across multiple jurisdictions.
This position offers the opportunity to work across a broad range of tax disciplines while collaborating with internal accounting, legal, acquisition, and operational teams, as well as external tax advisors in the United States and internationally.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Sales & Use Tax Compliance
- Maintain and continually update the Company's state-by-state sales and use tax matrix, including: Taxable and exempt products and services, Nexus determination, Economic nexus thresholds, Tax rates and jurisdictions, Filing requirements and frequencies
- Analyze and document sales tax implications related to the Company's consulting services, software offerings, and new business initiatives
- Monitor changing state and local tax regulations and update compliance requirements accordingly
- Coordinate the timely preparation, review, and filing of sales and use tax returns across multiple jurisdictions
- Assist with sales tax registrations, account maintenance, and jurisdictional correspondence as needed
Corporate Tax Support
- Serve as liaison with external tax service providers for federal and state income tax compliance
- Coordinate collection and delivery of information required for preparation of federal and state tax returns
- Monitor tax filing calendars and ensure tax payments and filings are completed accurately and on time
- Assist with tax notices, inquiries, and correspondence from federal, state, and local taxing authorities
State and Local Tax Compliance
- Prepare, compile, and organize accounting information required for various state and local filings, including but not limited to: Annual reports, Business & Occupation (B&O) tax returns, Gross receipts taxes, Commercial Activity Taxes (CAT), Rent taxes, Other state-specific business taxes and filings
- Monitor filing requirements and maintain compliance across all states in which the Company operates
.Tax Administration & Regulatory Compliance
- Partner with legal, accounting, and external advisors to maintain good standing with federal, state, and local taxing authorities
- Assist with obtaining and maintaining tax exemption certificates, residency certifications, and other tax-related registrations and documentation
- Coordinate responses to tax notices and support audits and examinations as needed
International Tax Coordination
- Support communication and information gathering efforts with third-party tax service providers in Canada, the United Kingdom, Singapore, Australia, Ireland, India, Peru, and other jurisdictions as applicable
- Assist with ensuring international compliance requirements are met and necessary information is provided timely to local advisors
Special Projects & Strategic Initiatives
- Support annual tax projects, including: Section 174 Research & Development (R&D) capitalization analysis, Section 266 interest capitalization projects, Other tax planning and compliance initiatives
- Participate in acquisition integration activities, including: Tax registrations and compliance transitions, Coordination with legal teams and tax advisors, Evaluation of acquired entities' tax obligations and filing requirements, Assist with accounting and finance projects outside of tax when business needs and workload permit
- Perform other duties and special projects as assigned
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- Minimum of 5 years of tax-related experience in public accounting, specialized tax services, corporate tax, or a combination thereof.
- Strong understanding of: Federal income tax regulations, State and local tax laws, Sales and use tax compliance requirements, Tax compliance and reporting standards
- Experience coordinating with external tax service providers/clients and managing filing deadlines.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and other financial reporting tools.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation or progress toward CPA certification.
- Experience with multi-state sales and use tax compliance.
- Experience supporting tax compliance for software, SaaS, technology, consulting, or professional services businesses.
- Experience working with international tax service providers and multinational operations.
- Familiarity with mergers and acquisitions, including tax integration activities.
- Experience with tax compliance software and ERP systems.
