Our Client, a Global Leader in the Biotech/Biomedical Industry, is seeking an experienced Environmental and Safety Specialist at our client's state-of-the-art new research center in Rockville, MD. This is a fully benefits eligible contract assignment with a duration through December 31, 2026. There is no relocation assistance available for the project.
The following job description is representative. Actual duties will vary with tasks performed expected to be 80% environmental compliance and 20% health and safety support.
Responsibilities:
- Conduct risk assessments as required on processes and tasks to quantify risk and recommend risk reduction measures to intended audience (i.e. production, maintenance, etc).
- Support environmental compliance by managing waste disposal process, air emissions inventory, annual chemical/environmental reporting (Tier 2, TRI).
- Acts as technical expert on sustainability initiatives such as product stewardship, new material evaluations, waste minimization efforts to ensure compliance with global chemical regulations.
- Assists in maintaining Management of Change process, including review of changes for EHS implications, specifically as it relates to hazardous materials, chemical processes and sustainability initiatives.
- Acts a technical expert related to hazardous materials management supporting cradle to grave management of hazardous materials, such as shipping, onsite management and disposal.
- Advise on wide-ranging scope of EHS issues, including regulatory compliance reviews to ensure compliance with local, state, federal and international regulations.
- Supports Emergency Response Plan with participation and assistance with training activities. Develops and conducts drills and resolves identified gaps.
- Audits for compliance with EHS requirements and progress of implementation of EHS Plan.
- Ability to either take the lead or participate in incident investigations and the judgment to make the correct decision based on each situation. Lead participants through site Root Cause Analysis methodology to arrive at sound causes and solutions to incidents. Works to maintain Incident Reporting system for Exton sites.
- Assist in determining departmental and personal EHS goals to further site viability and ensure safe and sustainable work environment.

You Bring:
- Minimum Bachelor’s Degree in a technical or EHS discipline required, Masters Degree preferred.
- Minimum of 5 years in various Environmental compliance-related functions (air, water, waste).
- Strong knowledge of universally accepted EHS practices.
- Good knowledge of US OSHA regulations as they relate to general industry, National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) standards, European Union (EU) regulations, US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).
- Good knowledge of International Chemical Regulations (TSCA, GHS, REACH) regulations is desired; previous Experience in Hazardous Materials management (DOT, RCRA).
- Must have advanced computing skills in Microsoft programs (Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Outlook).
