Mechanical Engineer - Machine Design experience required Direct Hire (Richmond, VA)Salary: $75,000–$100,000 DOEOur client in Richmond, VA is seeking an experienced Mechanical Engineer to support the design and development of custom automation equipment. This role involves both independent and collaborative concept development, contributing to clean-slate industrial designs tailored to diverse client needs. The position offers a dynamic environment working with a wide range of technologies across multiple industries.Key ResponsibilitiesUse SolidWorks to create CAD models for mechanical components and assemblies in accordance with company design standards.Research, evaluate, and specify commercial off-the-shelf components for automation system designs.Collaborate with project team members to plan and execute project scope effectively.Support Sales and Applications teams by providing accurate material and labor estimates for proposed equipment.Produce detailed manufacturing drawings with precise dimensions and tolerances.Select appropriate materials for machined and fabricated components.Assist Operations during the manufacturing phase of engineered systems.Troubleshoot automation systems during project debug phases.Perform finite element analysis (FEA) as needed.Work with Electrical and Controls Engineers to ensure mechanical designs meet all system requirements.Provide technical support to the Service team and customers.Create and update piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs) and as-built documentation.Develop comprehensive machine documentation.Complete assigned work within established timelines while meeting quality and safety requirements.Conduct quality control checks to ensure product compliance with company and client standards.Participate in scheduled departmental and project meetings.Collaborate with colleagues to produce cohesive, high-quality products.Recommend productivity and quality improvements to engineers and supervisors.Required QualificationsStrong understanding of standard machine elements (bearings, gearboxes, timing belts, mechanical indexers, etc.).Willingness to travel occasionally.Relevant experience may substitute for formal education; a bachelor’s degree in engineering is preferred but not required.5 years of machine design experience (automation machinery preferred).Strong proficiency with SolidWorks 3D CAD software.Experience with 3D printing manufacturing methods.Working knowledge of GD&T principles.Familiarity with manufacturing methods for mechanical components and fabrications.Competence using standard mechanical hand tools and power tools.Ability to read and interpret electrical and mechanical drawings and schematics.Ability to succeed in a fast-paced, multitasking, cross-functional environment.Strong adherence to safety standards.Solid math skills.Strong written and verbal communication abilities.Proficiency with basic computer applications including email, Teams, and Windows.Ability to navigate Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Excel, Word, TeamsPresented by TriMech Staff Augmentation TriMech Staff Augmentation is a specialized engineering staffing partner connecting top-tier technical talent with leading organizations.
