Position Overview
The Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) is seeking an experienced GIS Developer to support the Enterprise GIS Team within IT Applications. The ideal candidate will be responsible for designing, developing, configuring, testing, and supporting enterprise-level GIS applications and services using Esri ArcGIS technologies.
This role involves building and maintaining ArcGIS Enterprise applications, developing custom GIS web solutions, integrating GIS platforms with .NET applications and enterprise databases, and supporting mission-critical transportation and mapping systems used across the agency.
The candidate will collaborate with developers, database administrators, architects, infrastructure teams, and business stakeholders to deliver scalable, secure, and high-performing GIS solutions.
Key Responsibilities
· Design, develop, test, and maintain enterprise GIS web applications and services
· Configure and customize Esri ArcGIS Enterprise, Portal, Experience Builder, ArcGIS Online, and Hub applications
· Develop custom widgets and applications using Esri ArcGIS Maps SDK / JavaScript SDK
· Build and maintain GIS web editing and mapping applications
· Develop geoprocessing services and automate GIS workflows using Python/ArcPy
· Integrate GIS solutions with .NET applications, Oracle, SQL Server, and enterprise reporting tools
· Perform system integration, unit, regression, and performance testing
· Upgrade and migrate legacy GIS applications to modern architectures and current Esri platforms
· Troubleshoot application, server, database, and GIS service issues
· Support GIS administration activities including ArcGIS Server and Portal administration
· Implement GIS security best practices and data protection controls
· Create technical documentation, deployment documentation, and support artifacts
· Collaborate with cross-functional IT teams including database, network, infrastructure, and security teams
· Participate in project planning, effort estimation, and Agile/SDLC activities
· Provide technical guidance and mentorship to GIS staff and junior developers
· Support enterprise GIS applications used for transportation planning, permitting, safety, emergency operations, and traffic systems
Required Qualifications
· Bachelor’s degree in GIS, Geography, Computer Science, or related field
· 4 years of programming/application development experience
· 4 years of experience with SQL and PL/SQL
· 4 years of experience with Python scripting or ArcPy
· 3 years of experience developing Esri ArcGIS Server services and geoprocessing services
· 3 years of ArcGIS Enterprise/Portal or ArcGIS Online administration experience
· 3 years of experience with Esri Experience Builder and Arcade
· 2 years of experience with ArcGIS Pro or ArcMap
· Experience with HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript (ES6 ), Git, and modern frameworks such as Angular or React
· Strong understanding of geospatial concepts including spatial analysis and map projections
· Knowledge of IT security concepts and implementation within Esri technologies
· Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
· Strong verbal and written communication skills
· Ability to work collaboratively in cross-functional teams
