Job Overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented Junior Estimator to join our growing estimating department. This entry-level role is ideal for an individual looking to build a strong foundation in the construction industry while learning advanced estimating tools and project management principles.
You will assist in developing accurate project estimates, reviewing plans and specifications, and supporting both the estimating and project management teams. This position offers exposure to diverse commercial construction projects and the opportunity to grow into more advanced estimating or project management roles.
This is an in-person position in our Crofton, MD office.
Duties
- Develop comprehensive construction estimates using On-Screen Takeoff, Quick Bid, and other estimating tools.
- Review project plans, drawings, specifications, and contracts to determine the full scope of work and cost drivers.
- Perform detailed quantity takeoffs and pricing analysis across multiple construction disciplines.
- Assist with preparation of bid proposals, including labor, material, equipment, and overhead breakdowns.
- Research and maintain current knowledge of material pricing, labor rates, and subcontractor quotations.
- Support project management teams with contract reviews, scope clarifications, and change order evaluations.
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of estimating processes, templates, and workflows to improve accuracy and efficiency.
What We’re Looking For

- Interested in learning construction estimating, with a foundational understanding of construction management principles.
- Eager to learn estimating software platforms such as On-Screen Takeoff, Quick Bid, and other digital tools.
- Willing to visit active job sites for firsthand construction exposure and training.
- Able to develop knowledge in contracts, cost control strategies, pricing methods, and negotiation approaches.
- Comfortable analyzing complex project documents and preparing accurate estimates under tight deadlines.
- Excited to work on diverse commercial projects, with exposure to industrial and residential sectors considered a plus.
General Physical Requirements
- Ability to sit for extended periods while working at a computer.
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, or reach as needed during jobsite visits.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 25 lbs occasionally (e.g., carrying plans, equipment, or samples).
- Ability to move through active construction sites, including climbing stairs or accessing uneven terrain.
Jobsite-Related Requirements
- Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) such as hard hats, safety glasses, high-visibility vests, gloves, and steel-toe boots.
- Ability to tolerate varying environmental conditions during site visits, including heat, cold, dust, noise, and outdoor weather.
- Ability to perform visual inspections on construction sites, including viewing high or low areas, framing, walls, ceilings, or close-up construction details.
