SUMMARY OF POSITION
Comer Construction, Inc. is looking for a Site Work Junior Estimator to support our estimating team in preparing accurate, competitive bids for site development and civil construction projects. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who understands construction, enjoys working with plans and numbers, and wants to develop into a strong site work estimator. You will assist with plan review, quantity takeoffs, pricing, subcontractor and vendor coordination, bid preparation, and project handoff.
TYPICAL RESPONSIBILITIES / ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Review project plans, specifications, addenda, and site conditions to understand the complete scope of work.
Perform quantity takeoffs for earthwork, utilities, paving, concrete, erosion and sediment control, and other site work items.
Assist with developing labor, equipment, material, trucking, subcontractor, and production costs.
Attend site visits and pre-bid meetings to identify project conditions, risks, and opportunities.
Solicit and review pricing from vendors and subcontractors and maintain strong industry relationships.
Assist in preparing competitive bid proposals and participate in bid reviews.
Identify potential cost savings, value-engineering opportunities, and scope gaps before bid submission.
Work closely with estimators, project managers, superintendents, and field personnel to improve estimating accuracy.
Help maintain estimating databases, historical cost information, and production rates.
Continue developing knowledge of site construction methods, materials, equipment, and industry trends.
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR
Experience or education in civil construction, site development, estimating, construction management, or a related field is preferred.
Ability to read and understand civil plans, specifications, and construction documents.
Strong mathematical, analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, especially Excel.
Experience with AGTEK and/or HCSS HeavyBid is helpful, but not required.
Strong communication skills and the ability to work with vendors, subcontractors, field teams, and management.
Attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple bids and deadlines.
A positive attitude, strong work ethic, and willingness to learn.
