Title: Surgery Registered Veterinary Technician
Schedule: Full-time (>35 hours) Monday-Thursday with required on-call for surgical procedures for both the Holly Springs and Durham hospitals (*once fully trained)
The Triangle's premier emergency and specialty hospital is seeking a highly motivated, highly skilled Registered Veterinary Technician to join our surgery team in Holly Springs. Together, we provide 24-hour emergency service and specialty referrals in surgery, internal medicine, dermatology, and our emergency department. We're looking for technicians who want to utilize their skills to their fullest potential in a fast-paced, fun, and stimulating environment.
We are expanding our surgery department and would like to add new members to our team of board-certified surgeons and surgery/anesthesia technicians. Members of the surgery team function with a great deal of autonomy and responsibility. Solid technical skills and anesthesia knowledge base, sound judgment, and the ability to function both independently and with a team are required. Strong communication skills, verbal and written; organizational skills; proactive thinking, and the right attitude are also a must. Duties include patient prep and recovery; patient assessment; pain management; and anesthesia monitoring using multi-parameter monitoring equipment for a variety of anesthetized procedures including soft tissue surgeries and orthopedic surgeries.

Job Summary
Essential job functions of an anesthesia technician are primarily to perform general anesthesia and sedation on dogs, cats, and occasional exotic/pocket pets within the TVRH facilities. Anesthesia technicians work within the surgery department, however, may be required to perform anesthesia and/or sedation in other departments as well. They are also required to perform the duties of a surgery technician when necessary.
Essential Job Functions
- Provide all anesthetic support and phases beginning with sedation through induction, surgery, postoperative, extubation, and recovery.
- Perform various technical procedures including intravenous catheter placement, venipuncture, IV, SQ, IM injections, using various anesthetic multi-monitors and understand the rationale of use, various local and regional nerve blockade and emergency interventions including CPCR
- Managing client invoices (PVL) and charge for surgery and anesthesia services appropriately
- Provide exceptional patient care support throughout all phases of anesthesia
- Maintain accurate and complete medical records including anesthetic records.
- Maintain a clean work environment to maintain any infectious disease protocols, handle medical/biomedical and infectious waste appropriately
- Follow radiation safety and OSHA standards
- Help maintain inventory and supplies for procedures and patient husbandry
- Keep monitoring equipment and anesthesia machines in clean, working order
- Help with surgery department appointments and drop-offs
- Help assist in the surgery suite as necessary with cleaning the ORs and surgical instruments and setting up and breaking down the ORs.
Required Experience and Education
- Graduation from high school or GED equivalent
- Associate degree in Veterinary Technology
- Current RVT in NC or eligible for NC registration
- Anesthesia experience
