Job Summary
The Nurse Practitioner provides psychiatric and substance use disorder medication management in an outpatient setting. This role includes evaluation, diagnosis, prescribing, and ongoing monitoring of medications used to treat mental health and substance use disorders.We are seeking a dedicated and energetic Nurse Practitioner (NP) to join our Outpatient Mental Health & Substance Abuse Agency team. In this vital role, you will provide comprehensive outpatient care to individuals while delivering evidence-based treatment and support. The Nurse Practitioner provides comprehensive medical care to patients receiving treatment. This role includes assessment, diagnosis, medication management, and coordination of care in compliance with federal, state, and clinic regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct psychiatric and substance use disorder assessments and evaluations
  • Diagnose mental health and substance use disorders within scope of practice
  • Buprenorphine-based medications (Suboxone®)
  • Naltrexone (oral and injectable/Vivitrol®)
  • Antidepressants (SSRIs/SNRIs)
  • Mood stabilizers
  • Non-controlled anxiety and sleep medications
  • Monitor medication effectiveness, side effects, and adherence
  • Coordinate care with therapists, counselors, and case managers
  • Review laboratory results and toxicology screenings as appropriate
  • Provide patient education on medications, treatment goals, and relapse prevention
  • Prescribe and educate patients on Naloxone (Narcan®)
  • Maintain accurate, timely clinical documentation
  • Ensure compliance with HIPAA, 42 CFR Part 2, and applicable state and federal regulations
  • Conduct thorough patient assessments, including vital signs, medical history, and physical examinations to determine treatment needs.
  • Prescribe, monitor, and adjust medication-assisted treatment (MAT) plans for patients with opioid use disorder, ensuring adherence to best practices and regulatory guidelines.
  • Administer injections and perform medication management using medications such as buprenorphine or methadone within the scope of practice.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to develop individualized care plans that incorporate behavioral health, social support, and medical interventions.
  • Educate patients on treatment options, medication adherence, relapse prevention strategies, and harm reduction techniques.
  • Document all patient interactions accurately using electronic health record (EHR) systems like Epic or eClinicalWorks while maintaining compliance with HIPAA regulations.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives, case management activities, and ongoing clinical research to enhance program effectiveness.

Skills

  • Proven experience with EHR systems; familiarity with Athenahealth is a plus.
  • Strong knowledge of opioid use disorder treatment modalities including medication-assisted treatment (MAT).
  • Excellent patient assessment skills combined with the ability to manage acute pain and behavioral health issues effectively.
  • Experience administering injections, IV infusions, and performing venipuncture or catheter care.
  • Familiarity with clinical procedures such as triage, physical examinations, and diagnostic evaluation techniques.
  • Knowledge of HIPAA regulations and medical documentation standards for accurate recordkeeping.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team in outpatient or community-based settings. Qualifications

  • Licensed Nurse Practitioner (FNP, PMHNP, or Adult NP preferred)
  • Active state NP license and prescriptive authority
  • DEA registration (or ability to obtain)
  • Experience in addiction medicine, behavioral health, or primary care preferred
  • Knowledge of opioid treatment regulations and best practices
  • Strong communication and patient-centered care skills

  • Outpatient treatment clinic

Job Types: Full-time, Part-time, Contract, Local contract, Per diem

Pay: $52.00 - $80.00 per hour

Expected hours: 10 – 40 per week
