Our growing client is seeking an Operations Manager to oversee their sheet metal fabrication facility. In this role, the Operations Manager will hit the ground running, bring new energy to the team, and encourage growth. They will establish close relationships with the management team and will set and hold the production cadence across blanking, bending, welding, and finishing operations while also being a reliable connection between product demand signals and fabrication capacity, and identify gaps, constraints, and sequencing risks.
To be successful, the Operations Manager will have a demonstrated ability to lead and develop a fabrication workforce. They will assess the current bending setup and welding capability against production needs as well as implement a structured skills development roadmap to close critical gaps. They will also establish visibility into on-time completion, throughput, scrap/rework, and capacity utilization, and deliver a concise assessment of the priority improvement actions, identifying the resources or support needed to execute this plan. Additionally, the Operations Manager will develop and implement structured training and certification pathways, with emphasis on bending setup and welding as the current priority areas, and also drive consistency through standard work documentation, setup sheets, and operator qualification records. Responsibilities
- Lead and develop the sheet metal fabrication team across bending, welding, forming, and finishing operations
- Ensure production schedules, quality standards, and customer commitments are consistently achieved
- Improve operational performance through effective planning, capacity management, and KPI tracking
- Identify and implement process improvements that enhance productivity, quality, and efficiency
- Develop workforce capabilities through training, coaching, and standardized work practices
- Drive Lean manufacturing initiatives while promoting a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement
Qualifications
- 7 years of sheet metal fabrication experience, including leadership or management responsibilities
- Strong technical knowledge of fabrication operations, including press brakes, welding, metal forming, and finishing
- Proven experience leading manufacturing teams and driving operational improvements
- Experience with production planning, capacity management, and KPI tracking
- Lean manufacturing and continuous improvement experience
- Strong problem-solving and root cause analysis skills
- Experience with ERP systems and fabrication equipment such as Amada press brakes or laser systems is a plus
- Engineering degree or equivalent combination of technical training and manufacturing experience
