What are the responsibilities and job description for the Account Manager position at Tri State Life Safety & Electric Systems Inc.?
Tri State is seeking an experienced Account Manager to join our Sales team at our Ravenel, South Carolina office in the Greater Charleston area. This position will have primary responsibility for developing new business and customer relationships throughout the State of South Carolina.
This is a new business focused sales position for a true sales hunter. We are looking for someone who is motivated by identifying prospects, developing relationships, opening doors, and creating business that did not previously exist. The successful candidate must be capable of developing business organically through proactive prospecting, networking, relationship development, referrals, industry involvement, and direct customer engagement.
The Account Manager must be capable of developing relationships from a cold start, understanding the customer's organization and needs, identifying problems Tri State can help solve, uncovering upcoming projects and requirements, and converting those relationships into qualified opportunities and long-term customers.
While bid boards, public solicitations, inbound leads, RFP/RFQ notifications, and open-market opportunities may supplement the sales process, they are not intended to be the primary source of business for this position
The Account Manager will maintain ownership of customer relationships as they develop, working to convert new customers into long-term, repeat accounts and identifying additional opportunities across facilities, systems, services, and geographic markets. The objective is not simply to win an individual project. The objective is to establish lasting customer relationships capable of generating repeat business and continued opportunities for both the customer and Tri State.
South Carolina will serve as the Account Manager’s primary territory, with opportunities to pursue business in additional markets aligned with Tri State’s sales strategy and growth objectives. The Account Manager will collaborate with Engineering, Estimating, Operations, and company leadership to understand customer needs, develop solutions, prepare proposals, support negotiations, transition awarded work to Operations, and maintain strong customer relationships throughout the account lifecycle.
The ideal candidate will have a minimum of three years of direct to client sales and business development experience within the electronic security, telecommunications, low-voltage, systems integration, or related industry, along with a demonstrated history of independently developing new customers, generating qualified pipeline, and converting self-generated opportunities into revenue.
Key Responsibilities
· Develop and execute a territory and account-development strategy focused primarily on South Carolina to generate new customers, revenue, and organically sourced opportunities.
· Build and maintain a qualified sales pipeline through proactive prospecting, direct outreach, networking, referrals, industry involvement, customer introductions, and professional associations.
· Identify and build relationships with key decision-makers and stakeholders, including executives, facility, security, IT, procurement, and other relevant customer contacts.
· Conduct discovery with target accounts to understand operations, facilities, existing systems, business needs, projects, budgets, and long-term requirements, and identify opportunities for expansion across facilities, departments, services, and markets.
· Represent Tri State professionally at industry events, trade associations, networking events, customer functions, and other business-development activities.
· Partner with Engineering and Estimating to develop appropriate scopes, solutions, budgets, and proposals, and present solutions that clearly communicate Tri State’s capabilities and value.
· Own customer relationships throughout the sales process, ensure effective communication with internal teams, and support the transition of awarded projects to Operations while maintaining customer engagement.
· Maintain accurate CRM and sales-pipeline information, including customer activity, opportunity status, next actions, follow-up dates, and forecasts.
· Provide accurate, timely forecasts based on qualified opportunities, customer engagement, and realistic award timing.
· Meet or exceed established goals for new-account development, qualified pipeline, sales, revenue, gross margin, and other performance metrics, with measurable progress from opportunity generation through award.
· Monitor market conditions, customer and competitor activity, and industry developments within the assigned territory.
Required Qualifications
· Minimum 3 years of successful sales and business development experience in electronic security, telecommunications, low-voltage, systems integration, or a related industry.
· Proven direct-to-client sales experience, including building relationships with end users, decision-makers, and key stakeholders and managing opportunities from prospecting through proposal, negotiation, and award.
· Working knowledge of relevant technologies, including video surveillance, access control, intrusion detection, fire/life-safety, structured cabling, networking, telecommunications, or related low-voltage systems.
· Strong prospecting, networking, relationship-building, presentation, negotiation, and closing skills, with the ability to communicate effectively across technical and business stakeholders.
· Ability to independently manage an assigned territory and build and maintain a self-generated sales pipeline.
· Experience using CRM or sales-pipeline systems to manage opportunities, customer interactions, follow-ups, and forecasts.
Preferred Qualifications
- Established professional relationships within the South Carolina commercial, industrial, healthcare, institutional, government, or multi-site customer markets.
- Experience selling integrated solutions involving multiple security, communications, or low-voltage technologies.
- Experience developing multi-location or regional accounts.
- Experience selling projects, service agreements, maintenance programs, and system upgrades rather than primarily transactional product sales.
- Familiarity with consultative and solution-based selling methodologies.
- Demonstrated history of developing new accounts into repeat, long-term customer relationships.
- Experience working collaboratively with engineering, estimating, project management, and operations teams throughout the sales and project lifecycle.
