Position Overview:
We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented CAD Technician to join our engineering team. The ideal candidate will support engineers and designers in developing high-quality 3D models and fabrication drawings for custom safety tools, lifting devices, and other engineered products. This role bridges design and manufacturing, ensuring that products are both functional and ready for production. Inventor Experience a plus.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare detailed 3D CAD models, assemblies, and fabrication drawings using Autodesk Inventor.
- Collaborate with engineers to translate design concepts and sketches into preliminary generic concepts, final detailed models, preliminary conceptual drawings, and accurate technical drawings.
- Develop general arrangement (GA) drawings for client presentations and proposals.
- Maintain and organize design documentation, revision control, and drawing standards.
- Assist in creating bills of materials (BOMs), cost sheets, and product data sheets.
- Support fabrication and production teams by clarifying design details and resolving technical drawing issues.
- Participate in design reviews and help implement engineering changes efficiently.
- Ensure all designs meet applicable safety, quality, and industry standards.
Qualifications:
- Associate degree or technical diploma in Drafting, Mechanical Design, or related field.
- 2 years of CAD drafting experience (preferably in manufacturing, fabrication, or mechanical design).
- Strong proficiency Inventor or AutoCAD. Experience with PDM systems is an asset.
- Knowledge of mechanical design principles, fabrication methods (welding, machining, sheet metal), and tolerancing.
- Excellent attention to detail, organization, and communication skills.
- Experience in mining, heavy industry, or safety tooling is a plus.
