Role Description The Sr. Systems Engineer (Systems Engineer II) is a full-time, on-site role based at the Pendleton, SC campus. This position is responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining the College’s server, network, and systems infrastructure to support academic and administrative operations. Day-to-day tasks include system administration, performance monitoring, troubleshooting complex technical issues, and coordinating preventive maintenance and upgrades. The Sr. Systems Engineer provides advanced technical support to internal stakeholders, collaborates with IT staff in the creation of systems design and integration projects, and helps ensure system reliability, security, and compliance with institutional and regulatory requirements. The role also involves documenting configurations and procedures, contributing to technology planning, and mentoring other team members.
Qualifications
- Strong Systems Engineering and Systems Design skills to architect, implement, and optimize campus-wide infrastructure solutions.
- Hands-on System Administration experience with servers, operating systems, virtualization, storage, and networking components.
- Advanced Troubleshooting abilities to diagnose and resolve complex technical issues across multiple platforms and services.
- Proven Technical Support experience in a multi-user environment, including collaboration with IT staff, faculty, and administrative personnel.
- Knowledge of information security best practices, backup and recovery strategies, and high-availability configurations.
- Experience in higher education or large organizational environments is beneficial.
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, or a closely related field; relevant certifications (e.g., Microsoft, Cisco, VMware, CompTIA) are a plus.
