The Academic Success Coordinator in the Arts and Sciences Division is responsible for providing comprehensive academic support to students and faculty within the division. This role plays a critical part in enhancing student success by delivering advising services, coordinating resources, and promoting academic excellence. The employee will work under the direction of the Dean of Arts and Sciences and the Chair of the Division Advising Committee. The employee is expected to display initiative in identifying ways to improve advising in the division.

Key Responsibilities

Academic Advising:

  • Provides comprehensive academic advising to an assigned caseload of students within the Arts & Sciences Division, assisting them with course selection, academic planning, and goal setting.
  • Manages and maintains an adequate schedule of advising appointments to ensure student needs are met, including advising students during new student orientation sessions.
  • Provides students with accurate guidance based on their current credit earned, intended major, and intended transfer institution.
  • Communicates clear information regarding pre-requisite requirements, graduation requirements, transfer requirements, and recommended courses.
  • Proactively monitors student progress, identifies academic challenges, and addresses student inquiries in a timely manner.
  • Documents all advising recommendations in the college's student success system (e.g., Starfish) and utilizes early alert systems to connect students with tutoring or other college resources.
  • Analyzes student data from advising visits, surveys, and team feedback to identify trends, inform decision-making, and propose evidence-based improvements to advising practices.

Student Engagement & Success:

  • Collaborates with faculty, staff, and administrators to implement, manage, and assess new and ongoing success and retention initiatives.
  • Organizes, facilitates, and refines student engagement activities—such as academic workshops, study groups, 4-year college visits, and transfer fairs—to promote a sense of community within the division.
  • Identifies and launches new activities designed to facilitate meaningful networking opportunities for students, building connections with potential transfer institutions, industry professionals, and alumni.
  • Gathers and analyzes participant feedback to evaluate and ensure the ongoing relevance and effectiveness of engagement activities.
  • Represents the Arts & Sciences Division at internal college functions (e.g., Get Connected, AOP showcase) and external community recruiting events (e.g., high school visits).

Recruitment/Orientation Support:

  • Facilitates the recruitment, enrollment, and orientation of new students.
  • Serves as the division liaison to internal partners, like the Admissions Office (RAO) and the Comprehensive Studies department.
  • Manages the logistical components of recruitment and orientation events for the division, including booking rooms, scheduling advisors, and organizing and communicating the process to all A&S stakeholders.
  • Provides enrollment support to applicants and admitted students by assisting with the establishment and clarification of their education and career goals.
  • Provides clear, accurate, and timely information to faculty advisors regarding orientation sessions and the interpretation of placement assessment results to ensure appropriate course placement.

Division Support & Collaboration:

  • Leads the division's advising board by scheduling regular meetings, setting agendas, and ensuring documentation of board work and meeting minutes.
  • Creates and delivers strategies to ensure faculty advisors remain up-to-date with curriculum changes and advising processes through regular communications, workshops, and training sessions.
  • Serves as a division liaison to other college departments, such as Bridge Programs, Success Coaches, and other academic divisions.
  • Participates in ongoing professional development and training related to academic advising best practices and shares key takeaways with the academic leadership team and faculty.
  • Analyzes feedback from faculty to make necessary adjustments to advising support structures and provides regular reports to academic leadership.

Minimum and Additional Requirements

A Bachelor's degree and experience in student services programs.
