Job Summary:
Responsible for posting daily route slips and patient payments. Position requires accuracy, thoroughness and a good understanding of insurance procedures for referrals, copays, deductibles, allowables, CPT codes and diagnosis codes. Will work with the Billing Team as directed. Must have the ability to communicate effectively with patients. Must be able to multitask, work is interrupted often
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assigns accurately and sequences appropriately ICD-10 and CPT codes and all applicable modifiers.
- Reviews EOBs for correct payment. Reviews and proceeds with denied charges, rejected claims or other issues that affect expected reimbursement.
- Stays abreast of changes to contracts and fee schedules in order to apply payments and contractual discounts appropriately.
- Balances posting reports to ensure all payments have been posted. Must balance each batch.
- Moves credits and misapplied payments as appropriate.
- Posts patient refunds to patient accounts and coordinates refund checks.
- Participates in projects as needed.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Contacts physicians as appropriate when documentation in the medical record is inadequate, ambiguous, or unclear for coding purposes.
- Monitors regulatory and payer changes as they apply to diagnostic and procedure coding.
- Researches and resolves coding related system edits, payer rejections and insurance denials.
- Identify system editing, payer rejection, and insurance denial trends for improvement.
- Maintains up to date knowledge of the current changes of coding practices by continuing education and reading resource material.
- Posts insurance payments, electronic funds transfers, patient payments, contractual discounts, and miscellaneous receipts accurately to the EHR and accounting system.
- Knowledge of medical terminology and procedures preferred.
- Experience with medical billing systems and interpreting EOBs.
- Exceptional customer service, interpersonal skills, and communication skills.
- Proficiency of electronic records systems preferred. Must have strong data entry skills.
- Must be able to complete tasks with a high-degree of efficiency and accuracy while working in a fast-paced environment with frequent disruptions.
- Strong multi-tasking skills are a must.
- Must demonstrate ability to analyze data and resolve complex problems.
- Must have the ability to work independently while managing time and workload appropriately.
- Knowledge of health insurance industry practices preferred.
- Knowledge of medical billing procedures preferred.

Minimum Education Requirements:
- High school diploma or GED.
- MUST be experienced Certified Professional Coder (CPC)

- Medical Insurance Office experience preferred.
- Strong knowledge of coding and insurance billing procedures.
- Intermediate experience with Word processing and computer experience.
- Demonstrated excellence in communication and organizational skills.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively convey ideas and information.
- Demonstrated ability to work with others.
- Must possess professional appearance.
- Must possess good understanding of medical billing, coding and insurance copays and referral processes.
- Must possess attention to detail.
- Must possess ability to interface with assorted departments, physicians, professionals, associates, patients, and public.
- Must be a creative idea-generating individual with excellent follow-through abilities.
Physical Demands:
- The physical ability to be in a stationary position for extended periods of time (approximately 2-3 hours) while working at a desk is required.
- The physical dexterity to operate computer equipment and other complex office machinery is required.
- This position needs to occasionally move about the inside of the office and position self to access files, cabinets, office machinery, etc.
- Must be able to read and write.
- Must be able to frequently communicate on a multi-line phone as well as face-to-face with patients and staff.
- Adequate near, and far vision (for driving) required.
- Adequate depth perception (driving) required.

Pay: $18.00 - $20.00 per hour
