Material Handler/Receiving
West Chester, OH
Monday - Thursday 6:00 AM - 4:30 PM (with OT on Friday)
We are looking for an experienced material handler responsible to help oversee and perform a wide range of advanced material handling tasks. You will focus on optimizing materials flow, inventory management, leading the team, and improving processes within the warehouse or logistics facility.
This role is intended to support a higher-skilled, receiving-focused material handling function while maintaining the flexibility to perform multiple indirect material handling responsibilities based on business needs.
Duties/ Responsibilities
- Expertly and safely handle a wide variety of materials, supplies, and products, including the use of advanced equipment like forklifts, cranes, and automated systems
- Manage and optimize inventory levels, conduct regular cycle counts, and maintain accurate records, minimizing discrepancies.
- Oversee order picking, packing, and labeling processes, ensuring high accuracy, on-time shipments, and efficient order consolidation.
- Lead the organization and optimization of the warehouse layout for maximum space utilization and accessibility.
- Conduct thorough inspections of materials and products for damage, defects, or quality issues, and manage the disposition of non-conforming items.
- Operate, maintain, and perform advanced troubleshooting and maintenance on material handling equipment.
- Manage detailed paperwork, including bills of lading, inventory reports, material receipts, and other necessary records.
- Support receiving operations by accurately receiving, verifying, documenting, and routing incoming materials while investigating discrepancies through ERP transactions, paperwork review, and cross-functional follow-up.
- Use strong computer skills to manage email communication, scan and attach receiving paperwork, research ERP/system records, complete accurate system transactions, and maintain organized digital and physical documentation.
- Promote and enforce safety protocols and best practices within the team and contribute to the development of safety programs.
- Lead, coordinate, and mentor Material Handler Level I team members, ensuring efficient workflow and professional development.
- Identify and address complex materials-related issues and contribute to process improvements and cost reduction initiatives
- Develop and deliver training programs to onboard and educate new material handling team members.
- Identify areas for process improvement and actively participate in implementing efficiency enhancements.
Required Skills/ Abilities
- Expertise in operating a wide range of material handling equipment and advanced knowledge of inventory management systems.
- Demonstrated expertise in managing inventory, conducting cycle counts, and maintaining precise records
- Strong commitment to safety protocols and the ability to lead safety initiatives
- Proven ability to lead, coordinate, and mentor a team, providing guidance and professional development.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities for complex materials management challenges.
- Strong computer and organizational skills, including email communication, document scanning, ERP system investigation, systematic transactions, and accurate recordkeeping.
- Ability to work across receiving, warehouse, inventory, and material handling functions to support operational flexibility and ensure accurate material flow.
Education & Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- A minimum of 3-5 years of experience in material handling or a similar role in a warehouse.
- A minimum of 2 years of hands-on receiving experience in a warehouse, manufacturing, distribution, or logistics environment is strongly preferred.
- Demonstrated experience performing ERP/WMS receiving transactions, researching system issues, scanning and organizing receiving paperwork, and maintaining accurate records is preferred.
- Experience with NetSuite ERP (Oracle) preferred.
- RF scanning inventory system experience preferred.
- A minimum of 2 years of certified forklift experience as well as reach truck experience.
Work Environment
The work environment may include exposure to manufacturing machinery and potentially noisy conditions. The temperature inside a warehouse can vary. Some warehouses are climate-controlled, while others may not be.
Physical Requirements
- The teammate will frequently lift on average 30lbs throughout the course of a shift, ability to lift up 50 lbs occasionally.
- The teammate will be required to stand for extended periods of time.
- The teammate will be required to frequently bend and/ or twist throughout the course of a shift.
- Good hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity are often necessary, especially for tasks like for assembly of smaller components.
