Job Description
Our client is searching for an experienced Controller who will be in charge of creating accounting policies and managing all of the company's financial operations. The Controller will be responsible for the organization's timely and accurate financial administration and will play a critical role in establishing strong financial controls, building scalable processes, and ensuring compliance and audit readiness. As a strong communicator and skilled financial analyst, the Controller will carry out accounting activities, produce recurring financial reports, and keep accounting records.
Key Responsibilities
- Cash Controls & Compliance
- Design and implement policies and procedures to safeguard and optimize cash flow.
- Maintain compliance with internal controls, regulatory requirements, and audit standards.
- Oversee treasury operations, bank relationships, and reconciliations to ensure financial integrity.
- Accounting Leadership
- Lead and manage a National team of accounting professionals, fostering collaboration, accountability and development.
- Oversee all accounting functions including general ledger, AP/AR, payroll, and monthly/quarterly/year-end closes.
- Partner with external auditors and ensure the organization is consistently audit-ready.
- Strategic Partnering
- Provide insights to executive leadership regarding financial performance, risks, and opportunities.
- Support system enhancements (QuickBooks Online today, with future ERP transition expected).
- Help shape the finance infrastructure to support expansion across multiple states.
- People Development & Succession
- Mentor and grow talent within the department, fostering a fun and high-performing culture.
- Build succession planning strategies to ensure depth, continuity, and scalability of the finance team.
Qualifications
- CPA strongly preferred; background in both legal and accounting a plus.
- 10 years of progressive accounting/controllership experience.
- 3 years in audit with a public accounting firm.
- Certification in accounting, such as the CMA, CGA, or CA.
- Practical knowledge of the accounts payable and accounts receivable processes in the general ledger.
- Proficient in balance sheets, month-end closing procedures, and budget preparation.
- Advanced level knowledge of Microsoft Excel.
