VPK Lead Teacher
Role Overview:
- Implements Florida's Voluntary Prekindergarten (VPK) curriculum in a classroom of 4‑year‑olds, preparing them for kindergarten
- Plans and leads lessons aligned with Florida Early Learning Standards, including journaling, early literacy, and progress monitoring (e.g., PM1–PM3).
- Builds a nurturing, safe, and stimulating learning environment, encouraging social-emotional development through purposeful play and creative activities.
- Maintains classroom hygiene, organization, and a welcoming space.
- Collaborates with staff and leadership, mentors aides, participates in observations and feedback, and engages in professional development.
- Communicates regularly with families about student progress, conducts parent-teacher conferences.
- Ensures compliance with VPK standards, licensing, and center-specific policies.
Typical Qualifications:
- Credential like a CDA (Child Development Associate), Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education or related field.
- Completion of Florida’s required VPK Emergent Literacy training, and additional DCF-required trainings (e.g., 45‑hour child care training, emergent literacy courses).
- Current background screenings (FDLE and FBI) and an Affidavit of Good Moral Character, as required by the state.
- FAST testing certification.
- CPR Certification/First Aid
VPK Aide
Role Overview:
- Works alongside a VPK Lead Teacher to deliver instruction and educational opportunities, following state and district guidelines.
- Supports classroom management, student supervision, and helps maintain a safe and organized learning environment.
- Assists in implementing lesson plans, interacting with children during play or structured activities, and cleaning/disinfecting classroom surfaces as needed.
- Communicates with the lead teacher and may informally engage with families when appropriate.
- Participates in or supports administrative tasks such as attendance, basic documentation, and supervision.
Typical Qualifications:
- CDA plus Florida's Emergent Literacy course and passing paraprofessional test, or 60 semester hours from an accredited college; or an Associate's degree (with early childhood credits or early childhood field) plus Emergent Literacy; or Bachelor's degree in child development.
- Completion of Florida’s required VPK Emergent Literacy training, and additional DCF-required trainings (e.g., 45‑hour childcare training, emergent literacy courses).
- Minimum 1 year of childcare experience with children from birth to age.
- Must meet state-required background screenings (FDLE, FBI, Affidavit).
- FAST testing certification.
