Lead Hand – Assembly

As technology leader in high voltage bushings, the Trench brand
HSP drives the energy transition. HSP US in Charlotte will be the first
U.S.-based manufacturing plant of Trench Group. Starting operations in
early 2026 the plant will manufacture dry-type bushings (RIS/RIP) with
voltages up to 800 kV for the North American market. It will feature
full vertical integration and will house one of the most modern and
high-performance high-voltage test laboratories in the region. Trench
Group will invest more than $60 million in establishing a facility that
will manufacture cutting-edge technology to support the expansion of the
U.S. power grid infrastructure.
Your Mission
The Lead Hand – Assembly plays a key leadership role within the
high-voltage bushing manufacturing process. This position is responsible for
coordinating day-to-day assembly activities, ensuring product quality and
production efficiency, supporting continuous improvement initiatives, and
providing hands-on technical guidance to assemblers. The Lead Hand works
closely with Engineering, Quality, and Production teams to meet safety,
quality, and delivery objectives while maintaining a positive and collaborative
team environment.
What We Are
Looking For:
Lead daily operations within the assembly area to meet production schedules and quality standards.
Perform and oversee assembly of high-voltage bushings and subcomponents following work instructions, drawings, and specifications.
Conduct visual and dimensional inspections throughout the assembly process. Operate hand tools, torque wrenches, measuring devices, and specialized assembly equipment safely and accurately.
Ensure materials, components, and tools are available to meet daily production goals. Support troubleshooting of mechanical and electrical assembly issues, escalating as necessary.
Ensure all work meets HSP and Trench Group quality standards, including adherence to ISO procedures.
Support process audits and contribute to corrective/preventive action plans. Identify opportunities for process improvement, cost reduction, and waste elimination.
Assist with updating work instructions, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and assembly documentation.
Provide on-the-job training, mentorship, and performance feedback to assembly team members.
Assign tasks and balance workload based on skill levels and production priorities. Promote a culture of safety, teamwork, and accountability within the department.
Act as a key point of contact between the assembly team, maintenance, and production management.
What You Will
Bring
High school diploma or equivalent required; technical diploma or apprenticeship preferred.
Minimum 3–5 years of experience in mechanical or electrical assembly, preferably in a manufacturing environment.
Prior experience in a lead, team leader, or senior assembler role strongly preferred. Experience with high-voltage, electrical, or heavy mechanical products (e.g., transformers, bushings, or similar equipment) is an asset.
Strong mechanical aptitude and ability to interpret technical drawings and work instructions.
Skilled in the use of precision measuring tools and general hand tools.
Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
Proven ability to lead, motivate, and coach a small team.
Strong focus on quality, safety, and continuous improvement.
Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
Ability to stand for long periods and perform repetitive tasks.
Lift and handle parts up to 50 lbs with or without assistance.
Use of PPE as required (safety glasses, gloves, etc.).
Comfortable working in a production environment involving resin, epoxy, or other industrial materials.
