Summary
The Embedded Systems Architect serves as the technical bridge between engineering and sales, providing deep expertise in ruggedized embedded computing platforms and open standards-based architectures. This role is highly customer-facing and responsible for translating complex technical requirements into practical, scalable solutions for aerospace and defense customers.
Working closely with customers, sales leadership, and engineering teams, the Embedded Systems Architect will support Level 4 system integrations, define system architectures, and serve as the primary technical advisor throughout the solution development process. This position offers significant visibility, strong executive interaction, and the opportunity to influence critical technology decisions within a rapidly growing business.
Responsibilities
- Serve as the primary technical subject matter expert for customers evaluating ruggedized embedded hardware solutions
- Architect and define open standards-based computing systems that meet customer technical, operational, and performance requirements
- Support Level 4 system integration initiatives throughout the solution design and sales lifecycle
- Partner closely with sales teams to develop customer relationships, address technical concerns, and support revenue-generating opportunities
- Participate in customer meetings, technical presentations, and solution discussions
- Translate complex engineering concepts into clear, concise recommendations for both technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Evaluate customer requirements and develop technical architectures aligned with program objectives
- Collaborate with engineering teams to ensure proposed solutions are technically sound and executable
- Provide guidance on industry standards, system interoperability, and integration requirements
- Support proposal development, technical responses, and customer-facing documentation
- Participate in strategic planning and annual sales and business development activities
- Travel to customer sites and technical meetings as required
Requirements
- Strong background in hardware engineering within embedded systems, rugged computing, aerospace, defense, or related industries
- Experience architecting embedded computing platforms and hardware-based system solutions
- Hands-on experience with VPX (strongly preferred), VME, SOSA, or similar open standards-based computing architectures
- Experience with CompactPCI or related technologies is a strong plus
- Ability to serve as a trusted technical advisor in customer-facing environments
- Strong understanding of system integration, hardware architectures, and complex computing environments
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to explain technical concepts to diverse audiences
- Proven ability to partner effectively with sales, engineering, and executive stakeholders
- Comfortable supporting technical sales efforts and helping drive business growth
- Strong problem-solving, analytical, and solution development capabilities
- Ability to travel approximately 20% for customer visits, business meetings, and industry events
- Must meet ITAR compliance requirements due to the nature of the work and government-related programs
