Our Bus Assistants work alongside our Bus Drivers to safely transport students to and from school. Bus Assistants support an orderly, safe and pleasant atmosphere while on the bus by supervising and assisting students during transport.
Essential Job Functions:
- Rides along with the Bus Driver as they transport students safely between home and school, and between other locations on special occasions such as field trips and sporting events.
- Stays abreast with the student roster, making an effort to get to know each student; knows the physical and or emotional disability of each student on the bus; maintains confidentiality of student’s medical diagnosis and personal information.
- Operates hydraulic-lift for the purpose of loading and unloading of wheelchair confined students.
- Secures each student into his or her location with harness, safety belt assemblies, wheelchair locks or other safety equipment.
- Assists students with questions, concerns or other needs while the bus is in operation.
- Assists in emergency evacuation drills.
- Maintains discipline when students are on the bus.
- Shares student behavior (positive or negative) with staff and/or parents upon destination arrival;
reports any student misconduct to principal or principal's designee. - Checks to make sure all students are off of the bus at the end of the bus run.
- Becomes familiar with bus routes and route sheets to assist the driver or the substitute driver.
- Follows safety rules and regulations and proper procedures as outlined in the handbook.
- Reports personal absences on time for supervisor to secure substitute attendant.

Education and Experience:
Required
- High School Diploma or GED
- Previous experience working with children and adolescents
Preferred
- Basic First Aid/CPR certification
