What are the responsibilities and job description for the Mechanic position at Transportation?
TITLE: MECHANIC
QUALIFICATIONS: High School diploma or valid G.E.D.
Able to demonstrate an aptitude for the work to be performed.
Has past history of good attendance, being dependable, and punctual.
Eligible for certification as an Arizona school bus driver.
Ability to lift minimum of 40 pounds, stand or stoop for periods of time and work in a hot environment.
Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.
REPORTS TO: Transportation Manager
JOB GOAL: To keep the District’s cars and buses in such a state of operating excellence that they present no problem or interruptions to the educational program or administrative operation of the District.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Diagnosis and repair of all District automotive equipment.
- Establishes an efficient and effective system of routine automotive maintenance and preventative care.
- Maintains cleanliness and appearance of District automotive equipment, shop area, and equipment compound.
- Maintains a record system for the receipt and usage of parts and supplies.
- Maintains inventory of supplies and equipment.
- Assists in the screening and training of transportation department employees.
- Acts as a relief bus driver.
- Promotes high standards of safety and good housekeeping methods in all work-connected areas.
- Recommend changes for the improvement of procedures and operation of the transportation department.
- Trains mechanic on processes of bus repairs.
- Performs other duties as may be assigned.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Full time position. Salary and workdays to be established by the Board approved schedules.
EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on evaluation of Support Staff.
