TITLE: Lead Transportation
EMPLOYMENT TERMS: Twelve (12) Months
SALARY CLASSIFICATIONS: Classified Salary
GENERAL STATEMENT OF RESPONSIBILITIES: To provide supervisory services in transportation to ensure the safe and efficient operation of school district vehicles; to enhance the physical environment of students through individualized focus on safety and understanding, to train employees in the proper use of district vehicles; to react and make decisions in emergency situations, always considering the health, safe and welfare of student and staff.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBLITIES:
SUPERVISORY:
1. Plans and schedules all bus routes;
2. Ensures enforcement of bus rules;
3. Ensures that all buses are maintained in a clean and safe condition
4. Arranges for substitute bus drivers;
5. Reports all accidents and other unusual events to the Supervisor;
6. Orders supplies, materials and fuel necessary to operate in an efficient and cost effective manner;
7. Schedules preventive maintenance of district vehicles on a periodic basis;
8. Trains drivers regarding bus rules, safety and driving regulations on a periodic basis;
9. Directs on the job training to ensure that drivers meet their scheduled times on assigned bus routes;
10. Ensures a net and safe work environment;
11. Assists principals in establishing bus rules;
12. Prepares reports as required;
13. Performs other related tasks as assigned.
TECHNICAL:
1. Plans and directs the activities of mechanics;
2. Assists mechanic when necessary;
3. Serves as a substitute bus driver;
4. Maintains bus driver certification;
5. Maintains vehicle repair and maintenance records;
6. Maintains tools, parts and equipment inventory;
7. Participates in various trainings sessions to upgrade skills;
8. Performs other related tasks as assigned.
9. Enforces all bus regulations set forth by the district and state.
CERTIFICATION:
Valid Arizona School Bus Driver’s Certification, Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card
MODERATE RISK OCCUPATIONAL CONDITION:
Works with some hazardous materials, when driving, may have poor road conditions.
SKILLS REQUIRED:
1. Ability to pass annual physical;
2. Ability to pass drug test;
3. Successful completion of first aid training;
4. Successful completion of road test;

5. Operation of office equipment, spreadsheet applications;
6. Must be able to communicate in the Navajo and English language.
KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED: Rules and regulations governing school bus operation and maintenance, supervision and training techniques.
QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION: Post high school coursework or training appropriate to the position.
EXPERIENCE: More than three years, with at least one year supervisory experience.
SUPERVISION: Directs activities or more than three employees.
RESPONSIBILTY: Responsible for valuable equipment, confidential records.
LICENSE: Valid Arizona Commercial Drivers License;
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: May be required to assist students with restricted mobility, must be able to communicate over radio.
