MnDOT District 8 has up to 2 General Laborer positions this summer. Locations may include Hutchinson and surrounding areas.
These positions will work full-time hours Monday through Thursday and are anticipated to run from approximately mid-May to mid-September. No evenings or weekends. The season's preferred dates would include approximately May 6, to September 8, 2026, but some flexibility can be provided with schedules.
Highway Maintenance
Assist in maintaining the roadway surfaces and shoulders; debris removal from roadways, right-of-way and roadsides; assist with traffic control in high volume traffic settings; roadside mowing, trimming and landscape maintenance; assist with installation and repair of signs and guardrails.
Minimum Qualifications
- Knowledge of methods, tools, and equipment used in maintenance and construction work sufficient to carry out detailed work.
- Ability to understand oral directions sufficient to carry out verbal assignments in a safe and efficient manner.
- Ability to perform heavy manual labor work sufficient to complete assignments. Strength and agility necessary to bend, lift, dig, reach, and load heavy materials.
- Endurance necessary to perform tasks under extreme environmental conditions, such as heat, cold, rain, snow, and wind.
- These positions require a good driving record and a valid Class D Driver's License at time of application. Driver's license history will be reviewed.
Preferred Qualifications
- High School Diploma or Equivalent
- 3 months of work experience in light construction or similar field
