R&D Supervisor

Position Summary: Quality/Research & Development Supervisor is focused upon laboratory, environmental food safety, data collection and trending, scientific studies/validation, and research & development. The primary emphasis is upon collecting scientifically supported information that is used by other team members for interpretation and application. Quality/ R&D Supervisor conducts research, studies, and testing to validate the effectiveness of the food safety plan and the suitability of raw materials and finished products. The Quality/ R&D Supervisor oversees and/or performs Research & Development functions as directed by the Quality Assurance Manager.  

Essential duties and responsibilities 

• Completion by established deadlines of all tasks included on Quality/ R&D Supervisor Task List, 

• Maintain all laboratory related functions including:

• Finished product testing, 

• Environmental Monitoring

• Validation testing. 

• Monitor environmental food safety concerns (i.e. EMP program), 

• Validate all aspects of Food Safety Manual and SQF compliance plan, 

• Oversee or perform all activities related to Research & Development program, 

• Gather, organize, and trend scientific data and provide to Director of FSQA and/or QA Manager for analysis, 

• HACCP plan review and Critical Control Point validation, 

• Analytical data reporting – Daily data entry into Central Database system, 

• Responsible for the daily completion of all facility-level scientific documentation and its storage, 

• Provide scientific data which establishes all raw materials and finished product is within specifications, 

• Assist in development of any new process or policy, 

• Responsible for reporting any food safety concerns and empowered to do so, 

• Cleanliness and organization is a key component to your success, as well as the safety of yourself and others. It is required of each employee to maintain the areas they are responsible for in a clean and organized manner at all times. 

• Any other task as assigned by QA Manager.  

Efficiencies 

• Suggest ideas or solutions to improve SQF related compliance, data acquisition, etc., 

• Give and seek honest feedback to and from QA Manager, 

• Have a positive attitude towards reliability, 

• Help meet or exceed efficiency goals, 

• Good verbal and written communication and team building skills, 

Labor Control 

• Work shifts as scheduled or needed, 

• Achieve established benchmarks and timetables defined by QA Manager,  

• Meet all Quality/ R&D Supervisor related schedules as required,  

Authority & Purview 

• As per QP-101:5.2 - 5.3, specific to Quality/ R&D Supervisor related, facility-level issues, 

• Authority over Quality Control Technicians (when performing related tasks to Quality/ R&D Supervisor) 

Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and abilities) 

• 2 years’ experience in Quality and Food Manufacturing required 

• Bachelor of Science degree or equivalent experience in Quality/ R&D Supervisor 

• Or other qualifying knowledge or credentials deemed sufficient by Director of FSQA,  

• Attend suggested and required seminars and training classes for continued improvement, 

• Must have strong math skills, be computer/excel proficient, have good written and verbal skills and maintain a high work ethic.
