This is a direct-hire, full-time, on-site position based in the Northeast United States. The role may be based in one of the following locations: Boston, NY/NJ, Philadelphia.
Position Overview:
As the Regional Ocean Freight Manager, you will be responsible for responsible for leading, controlling, and developing all ocean freight operational activities at the Business Unit. This includes both export and import operations, carrier and vendor management, cost control, P&L, and customer service performance. The role ensures operational excellence, compliance, and profitability in alignment with Scan Global business strategy, KPIs, and customer SLAs.
Job Description:
- Lead and mentor the ocean operations team to deliver high-quality performance and excellent customer service.
- Ensure all operational processes—from booking through delivery—comply with internal SOPs and customer requirements.
- Maintain full compliance with FMC, AES, ISF, AMS, and other U.S and international trade regulations.
- In coordination with Product, Monitor and manage ocean carrier performance, ensuring best routing, service levels, and rate utilization.
- Ensure accurate and timely billing, file recap, and cost reconciliation to maintain profitability in GP1 levels
- Continuously improve operational workflows to optimize efficiency, accuracy, and margin performance. GP2 levels should be reported and addressed.
- Act as the primary point of escalation for ocean-related customer issues and service failures.
- Proactively communicate with customers and commercial teams regarding shipment status, exceptions, and improvement actions.
- Drive customer retention and satisfaction through consistent and transparent communication.
- Support onboarding of new customers, ensuring smooth transitions and complete SOP adherence.
- Ensure team structure and staffing levels are aligned with volume requirements and service expectations.
- Conduct regular performance reviews, setting clear expectations and measurable goals.
- Monitor and analyze GP and file profitability to identify trends and improvement opportunities.
- Support finance and Business Unite in achieving budgeted GP and EBITDA goals.
- Partner with commercial teams to identify and pursue cross-selling and upselling opportunities.
- Work closely with product and the Ocean Freight communities to optimize carrier allocation and procurement efficiency

Required Skills/Abilities
- Minimum 5 years of experience in Ocean Freight Operations, including international shipping procedures.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in logistics, freight forwarding operations, or related sales.
- Experience handling bonded freight and cargo movements.
- Strong knowledge of regulatory compliance related to international air freight and U.S. import/export regulations.
- Demonstrated analytical thinking and problem-solving abilities, particularly in resolving shipment or operational issues.
- Customer-service oriented with the ability to maintain strong client relationships.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced and dynamic environment while managing multiple priorities.
- High attention to detail with strong organizational and time-management skills.
- Strong sense of urgency and ability to perform well under pressure.
- Excellent communication skills, including professional email and telephone etiquette.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
- Entrepreneurial mindset with a proactive approach and willingness to learn.
- Ability to identify and resolve issues related to the movement of freight into and out of the United States.
Physical Requirements:
- Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Must be able to lift 15 pounds at times.
Work authorization/security clearance requirements:
- Must be eligible to work in the United States.
- Must pass TSA eligibility screening.
Job Type: Full-time
Salary: $120,000 to $150,000.00 annually
Schedule: 8-hour shift (Monday to Friday)
