Position Overview: The Purchasing Agent is responsible for procuring raw materials, packaging, and operational supplies to support TransChemical Inc.'s manufacturing and distribution operations. This position ensures materials are purchased at the best value while meeting quality, delivery, and service requirements. The Purchasing Agent monitors inventory levels, issues purchase orders, coordinates with suppliers, and collaborates with internal departments to maintain an uninterrupted supply of materials.
This position reports directly to the Supply Chain Manager.
Key Responsibilities:
Supplier Management: Evaluate and select suppliers based on price, quality, reliability, and delivery capabilities.
Purchase Order Generation: Prepare purchase orders, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
Inventory Management: Monitor inventory levels, forecast demand, and place orders to maintain adequate stock while optimizing inventory turns.
Quality Assurance Paperwork: Ensure that purchased materials meet specified quality standards, and shipments arrive with Certificates of Analysis (COAs) and other shipping documentation.
Communication: Communicate effectively with suppliers, internal departments (e.g., sales, production, accounting), and other stakeholders.
Documentation: Maintain accurate records of purchases, deliveries, and inventory.
ERP System Support: Assist the Supply Chain Manager with ERP implementation, testing, purchasing workflows, data validation, and ongoing system improvements.
Alcohol Reporting: Support the Supply Chain Manager by compiling and verifying data for alcohol reporting, ensuring accuracy and timely submission of required reports.
Qualifications & Skills:
Strong negotiation skills with the ability to secure favorable pricing and terms.
Ability to analyze market trends, pricing fluctuations, and supplier performance.
Knowledge of inventory planning and inventory management principles.
Experience with Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems used for purchasing and inventory management.
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office applications.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
Ability to identify and resolve purchasing, inventory, delivery, and documentation issues.
Proficient in Microsoft Excel
Essential Duties:
Maintain inventory levels that optimize efficiency and inventory turns.
Maintain accurate purchase order records and supplier information.
Ensure all required documentation, including Safety Data Sheets (SDSs) and Certificates of Analysis (COAs), is received, reviewed, and properly filed.
Monitor stock levels and place orders to prevent shortages while supporting inventory objectives.
Coordinate with Production, Accounting, Sales, and other departments to ensure efficient purchasing operations.
Develop and maintain positive relationships with key suppliers.
Resolve routine purchasing, delivery, and inventory issues while escalating significant concerns to the Supply Chain Manager.
Perform other purchasing and supply chain duties as assigned.
Success in this role includes:
Maintaining inventory levels that support production and customer demand.
Achieving established inventory turn objectives.
Minimizing stockouts, backorders, and emergency purchases.
Processing purchase orders accurately and on time.
Maintaining accurate purchasing, supplier, and inventory records.
Developing productive relationships with suppliers and internal stakeholders.
Supporting continuous improvement initiatives within the purchasing and supply chain
functions.
Pay: $45,000.00 - $55,000.00 per year
