What are the responsibilities and job description for the Mechanical Contractor Safety Manager position at trak group?
trak group is partnering with a well-established Cincinnati-area contractor to find a Mechanical Contractor Safety Manager. This is a senior leadership role for a safety professional who leads by influence, builds culture through coaching, and takes full ownership of safety outcomes across field operations.
You will serve as the safety authority for field teams and project leadership—on job sites, in pre-construction planning, and at the executive level. Your work will directly shape how this organization identifies risk, responds to incidents, and builds a proactive safety culture across mechanical construction operations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design and maintain safety programs, JSSPs, and compliance documentation aligned with OSHA, NFPA, ANSI, and ASME standards—with specific application to LOTO, hot work, trenching, confined space, and energized systems
- Conduct site inspections, safety audits, JHAs, and Pre-Task Safety Planning across active job sites
- Lead safety orientations and ongoing training including fall protection, hazard communication, welding safety, and mechanical systems—and coordinate OSHA 10/30, First Aid/CPR, and equipment certifications
- Investigate incidents and near-misses, prepare root-cause analyses, and drive corrective action and lessons learned across teams
- Manage OSHA logs, SDS, and inspection documentation; lead regulatory inspections with OSHA, fire departments, and insurers
- Participate in pre-construction planning and champion Stop Work Authority at every level of the organization
Qualifications:
- Demonstrated experience managing safety on multi-employer mechanical or industrial construction job sites
- Strong working knowledge of mechanical construction equipment—cranes, rigging, boilers, pressurized piping, aerial lifts
- Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety, Construction Management, Mechanical Engineering, or related field preferred; equivalent field experience considered
- Proven ability to lead, coach, and influence field crews and project leadership alike
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and safety management systems
- Ability to be physically present on job sites in varying conditions
