At Trainsit, our mission is to build the digital and physical infrastructure for a cleaner, more efficient future powered by rail. We believe that sustainable rail is the key to decarbonizing transportation and supply chains, but its potential is locked behind outdated systems. If 25% of truck traffic moving at least 750 miles shifted to rail, annual greenhouse gas emissions would fall by 13.1 million tons (equivalent to planting 200 million trees a year) and we believe this is just the beginning of the impact trainsit can have. We're a pre-seed stage cleantech startup building a modern platform to make rail more accessible, affordable, and seamless for businesses and people alike.

The Opportunity
This isn't just another engineering role. We are looking for a founding full stack engineer to join our early-stage, venture-backed startup. You will work with the founders to grow our platform to become a category-defining product, continue scaling it to massive enterprises, and become a leader in the organization. With your technical experience, you’ll lead initiatives and help set the direction of Trainsit’s software as you design, test, and deploy our systems.

What You'll Do
- Extend & Scale the Platform: Work directly with the CTO to build on top of our existing, production-ready platform: writing high quality distributed software, shipping new features, improving reliability, and scaling our infrastructure to serve customers.
- Own the Full Lifecycle: Take end-to-end ownership of features from design collaboration through implementation, testing, and deployment. You'll contribute across the entire stack on day one.
- Build from Design: Partner closely with founders to translate mockups and user stories into intuitive, pixel-perfect experiences, raising the bar on the UI we've already shipped.
- Shape Technical Direction: Serve as a key technical voice alongside the CTO, contributing to decisions about architecture, product roadmap, and engineering culture as we grow the team.
- Drive Performance & Reliability: Identify and resolve bottlenecks, improve observability, and make the foundational technical decisions that allow Trainsit to scale to a global user base.
- Build AI-Powered Automation: Design and implement intelligent workflows that leverage LLMs to automate complex logistics processes from data extraction and document processing to autonomous agents that can take actions, call APIs, and make decisions on behalf of users.
Our Tech Stack
We've built a modern, cloud-native platform. Here's what you'll be working with:
- Backend: Python
- Frontend: Next/React/Typescript
- Infrastructure: GCP, Postgres, Docker
Who You Are
- An Experienced Builder: We are looking for an engineer with 3-5 years of experience in scalable backend or distributed systems. Strong experience with our key technologies including Python and Typescript is preferred, as well as experience designing production APIs, and service architecture.
- A Product-Minded Engineer: You excel at turning designs and concepts into functional, beautiful products. You have a keen eye for detail and a deep sense of user empathy. You think in workflows, not endpoints.
- Systems Ownership Mindset: You are comfortable owning infra end-to-end. You possess strong debugging and performance optimization skills.
- Mission-Driven: You are excited by the prospect of joining an early-stage, mission-driven clean tech startup and want to use your skills to make a tangible impact on sustainability.
- Communicator: You possess excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- AI-Curious Builder: You have hands-on experience integrating LLM APIs into production applications. Familiarity with agentic patterns like reasoning through multi-step problems, is a strong plus.

- Experience with logistics, B2B marketplaces, or transportation technology.

The base salary range for this position is $130,000 - 160,000 annually.
