Artist Mentor
Contract Role (1099)
BAM! is seeking creative, dependable, and youth-centered Artist Mentors to design and lead art workshops. This role is ideal for artists who are passionate about their craft, enjoy working with young people, and want to make a meaningful impact through mentorship and creative engagement.
Artist Mentors help create spaces where underserved and LGBTQ youth can explore art, build confidence, strengthen connections, and gain exposure to new creative pathways. We are looking for mentors who can lead engaging, hands-on workshops while helping youth feel welcome, supported, and encouraged.

Please note: This position posting will remain open for 3 weeks from the date of posting. Interviews will be scheduled during the last two weeks of April.
Mandatory paid training dates
- May 27, 9:00 AM–1:30 PM
- June 3, 9:00 AM–1:30 PM
Position Responsibilities
- Design and lead a series of 3–10 workshops aligned with BAM! (bambizart.org)
- Create hands-on projects in your area of artistic expertise that connect to the overall program theme
- Foster a supportive, inclusive environment for underserved and LGBTQ youth
- Build meaningful relationships with youth through mentorship, encouragement, and creative engagement
- Support youth growth by recognizing participation, effort, and progress in a non-graded setting
- Share age-appropriate insight into artistic careers, creative industries, and real-world opportunities
- Submit a brief post-program report summarizing youth engagement, growth, and feedback
- Optional: Attend BAM! field trips and events; hourly stipend available
Requirements
- At least 1 year of experience teaching or working with youth or
- 6 months of experience teaching or working with youthcombined with BAM! workshop training which includes youth-focused training
Expectations: Artist Mentors are expected to honor the dates and times they commit to. If changes or cancellations arise, more than 2 weeks’ notice is required whenever circumstances are within the mentor’s control. Mentors who cancel with less than 2 weeks’ notice in avoidable situations may not be considered for future contract opportunities with BAM!/TLYS.
