Job Description:
We are seeking an experienced and passionate Bartneder / Server to join our front of house team for a soon-to-open restaurant in Elkhart, IL just 20 minutes outside of Springfield IL. Our concept is housed in an old historic building with a small, intimate, bar & dining space with a exposed brick and wood accents, featuring a German / Bavarian influence with steaks, potatoes and other comfort food.
This is a unique opportunity to be part of something from the ground up and help shape the hospitality culture from day one. Owners are experienced and successful in other ventures.
Bartending Duties
- Prepare and serve alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages.
- Provide excellent customer service and maintain a friendly atmosphere.
- Verify customer age and follow alcohol service laws.
- Take food and beverage orders accurately.
- Maintain cleanliness of the bar, equipment, and service areas.
- Monitor guest behavior and handle intoxicated patrons appropriately.
- Restock liquor, beer, wine, mixers, and supplies.
Serving Duties
- Greet guests and provide friendly, attentive service
- Take food and beverage orders accurately
- Explain menu items, specials, and drink options
- Check identification and follow all alcohol-service laws
- Process payments and handle cash responsibly
- Maintain clean tables, bar areas, and service stations
- Work closely with kitchen and front-of-house team members
- Assist with opening, closing, and side-work duties
- Ensure compliance with health, safety, and liquor regulations.
- Monitor sales, cash handling, and daily financial reports.
- Assist with promotions, events, and marketing initiatives.
RequirementsEducation & Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Previous bartending / serving experience (2–5 years preferred).
- Supervisory or management experience preferred.
- Bartending certification or alcohol service certification BASSETT required.
Skills
- Excellent communication and customer service skills.
- Knowledge of food, cocktails, beer, wine, and beverage trends.
- Experience with POS systems and cash handling.
- Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.
- Problem-solving and conflict-resolution skills.
- Strong organizational and inventory management abilities.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand for extended periods.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 40 lbs.
- Ability to work nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Comfortable working in a busy, fast paced environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience bartending, serving and/pr managing
- Knowledge of local liquor laws and regulations.
- Experience with scheduling, budgeting, and cost control.
