Remote Option: Open to fully remote candidates outside Michigan
Duration: Until Jun 2027 (with a possibility of extension)
Per Diem: $550/week available for qualified non-local candidates willing to relocate to Michigan
Job Summary
Our client is seeking a Mechanical Engineer III to support the development and engineering of new generation assets, including natural gas generation projects. This role will provide mechanical engineering support throughout project development, design reviews, construction support, and equipment specification activities. The ideal candidate will have experience with power generation systems, mechanical equipment design, P&ID reviews, and engineering documentation.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the Lead Project Engineer on natural gas generation projects.
- Develop and prepare mechanical equipment specifications and technical documentation.
- Estimate material, labor, and construction costs for project budget preparation.
- Review and evaluate mechanical equipment, piping layouts, and system designs.
- Perform drawing reviews including P&IDs, equipment layouts, and vendor submittals.
- Provide technical support for engineering, construction, and project teams.
- Review and respond to RFIs, submittals, and engineering documentation.
- Ensure compliance with applicable codes, standards, specifications, and customer requirements.
- Perform detailed engineering calculations and establish mechanical design standards.
- Collaborate with internal teams, customers, contractors, and vendors to monitor project progress and budgets.
- Conduct site visits as needed to support engineering and construction activities.
- Design, implement, and improve mechanical systems and equipment for generation projects.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Welding, or Industrial Engineering from an ABET-accredited program, OR engineering degree from a non-ABET accredited program with a Professional Engineering (PE) License in Mechanical Engineering.
- 4–7 years of relevant mechanical engineering experience.
- Experience with power generation mechanical systems and industrial projects.
- Strong knowledge of mechanical equipment and fluid systems, including:
- Steam systems
- Condensate systems
- Fuel gas systems
- Cooling water systems
- Compressed air systems
- Experience reviewing P&IDs, equipment drawings, layouts, and vendor documentation.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and organizational skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and ability to learn new engineering software.
Preferred Experience
- Natural gas power generation project experience.
- Experience supporting engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) projects.
- Field/site engineering experience.
- Experience working with engineering contractors and equipment vendors.
Work Environment
- Michigan Local Candidates: Preferred to work hybrid from Jackson, MI (M/T/Th onsite).
- Non-Local Candidates: Fully remote options available; relocation candidates may qualify for $550/week per diem.
