Job Title: Electrical Engineer IV
Location: Jackson, MI
Duration – 12 months
Position Summary:
The Electrical Engineer IV will be responsible for the engineering and integration of hardware and software systems involving programmable and configurable devices used in electric substations and on electric lines. This includes working with substation network devices, legacy electrical systems, and modern intelligent electronic devices (IEDs).
The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting detailed design efforts by integrating devices and systems based on CAD design drawings developed by others in the I&C Division. This position is hands-on and requires work in lab environments for system prototyping, testing, and integration activities.
Key Responsibilities:
- Engineer and integrate hardware and software systems for substation and line control applications.
- Configure and program programmable automation controllers (PACs), remote terminal units (RTUs), protective relays, meters, and transformer monitoring systems.
- Develop, test, and validate system connectivity, data acquisition, and control interfaces.
- Support the design and commissioning of substation networks and communication systems.
- Participate in system prototyping, test setup, and troubleshooting activities in a lab or field environment.
- Collaborate with design teams to ensure successful integration of devices reflected in CAD designs.
- Prepare documentation, reports, and configuration files to support project deliverables.
- Communicate effectively with project managers, technicians, and external customers.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET-accredited program.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to interact effectively with customers and multidisciplinary teams.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Access, Excel, and Word.
- Hands-on experience with hardware integration, testing, and troubleshooting.
- Strong motivation, positive attitude, and the ability to work independently or in team environments.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with programmable/configurable devices such as RTUs, regulator controls, and recloser controls.
- Familiarity with the IEC-61131 programming suite.
- Knowledge of DNP 3.0 protocol (both serial and IP).
- Experience programming in VB.NET or other high-level programming languages.
- Background in integration, networking, and configuration of intelligent electrical devices (IEDs).
